I was on the Nimitz when one of the planes from my squadron did a supersonic flyby.  Very cool.  Unfortunately I did not have my camera set up right so all I got was a blur of an F-14 going by.  Still kick myself over that one.

With Obama cancelling all sorts weapon systems, we'll probably get to see a flat top roll over in the gulf.

Which programs are you speaking of?

I suppose all the bullets Homeland Security, IRS, and dozens of other federal agencies have been stockpiling will be used to replace the soon to be cancelled weapon systems the Navy has relied upon in the past.

I'm sure Russian, Chinese, Iranian and who else are already making plans for Obama's new defense strategy formulated on the streets and in the ghettos of Chicago.

Like I said before what weapons systems are you talking about?  Everyone says we need to get a handle on the deficit but the second you announce cuts people have a hissy fit.  So I guess the billion dollar question is where are the cuts going to come from.

If people want to say that Obama's cuts to certain Navy programs endanger the fleet let me point out some facts.  Back in the early 90's then Sec of Defense Dick Cheney killed the F-14D program.  A program that was on schedule and under budget mind you.  What did the navy get in return?  An aircraft that had could not get on station as quickly, could not stay there as long, could not acquire and track targets at the range the F-14D could or engage them at those ranges.  Wonder what an admiral in charge of a CBG would want flying cover?

Why then didn't they bring the F-14D back if it was such a success.

Probably because the production facilities in Claverton, NY no longer exist and the skilled workforce that built the aircraft is no longer there.  Which means it would be very expensive to bring it back.
