How much food is added to gasoline in the form of ethanol? Not only does it not go to food, it also tends to reduce gas mileage, meaning the average American is using MORE gas and therefore pumping more food into their fuel tank. I do believe 40% of our corn production goes to ethanol. 33% goes to livestock feed. So about 25% goes to food and beverage (read - high fructose corn syrup - one of the leading causes of the diabetes epidemic). Sounds like a good use for our tax money.

They will find out in November. Even with all roy moore's baggage, republicans don't lose a Senate seat in AL when things are going well for them. Even some of trump's formerly vocal supporters try to put up their hands, shake their heads and walk away when I ask them if they are ok with trump choosing russia over our own law enforcement. It is scary how one man who is a documented liar can overcome the republican party's long history of support of our law enforcement and dislike of russia. Even a lot of fox news anchors are turning on trump because of his subservience to russia, but by all means, let them stay in denial.

December 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act signed by Congress and the President, which requires the use of 15 billion gallons of renewable (ethanol) fuel by 2015. In 2007 about 6.5 billion gallons were produced. 2007-2008 Surge in individual states mandating the use of 10% ethanol E10 gasoline.

Sounds to me like Bush was trying to appease the "renewable energy" crowd.

You may get less mileage per gallon but do you actually use more gas (as in actual gasoline not the blend)? I honestly don't know.

I'd like to use less oil, and those dad gum onerous EPA regulations that Obama and the democrats put it place made it possible for a Suburban to get 20 mpg instead of 8 mpg. I kind of wish they would roll back the EPA regs and these guys driving all these big assed SUV's started getting 8 mpg again.

But I was never a fan of ethanol. But speaking of farmers....we gave THEM subsidies to grow corn that we could feed to our cars. Subsidies that came from MY tax dollars. And the food that these subsidies paid for went into my gas tank. And one result of food in my gas is that my mileage was worse. So I'm paying more to put fuel in my car because my tax dollars went to pay a farmer to grow the food that went in my gas.

And then...farmers were used by the Republicans to rally support against the "death tax". Republicans always ran the ads with the mournful violin music talking about how the family farm was lost because the family couldn't afford to pay the "death tax" and had to sell it. Considering that the first $5,000,000 in the estate was EXEMPT from the death tax, if someone couldn't afford to pay the death tax on the value of the estate that was OVER $5 million, then I'm not sure I needed to be sending them subsidies to the farmers to grow food for my gasoline in the first place.
