U-ALPA Ultimatum to U-CEO

It appears that the MEC Chairman recently sent a letter to David Siegal stating there is no need for Republic Airlines and request US Airways to immediately implement the terms of paragraph 2.E of LOA 83 and place additional Chautauqua small jets into service in accordance with the LOA.

Anyone have any more details?

A little bird told me that since the CHQ group jumped through someone's hoop (exactly whose hoop we can only speculate) with the new and improved j4j vote, U-ALPA has refused to staff Republic. Furthermore, U has told the honcho's at Republic Airways Holdings that they have until May 10 to straighten out the labor issues at RAH (translated:CHQ) or else Trans States will get all the new jets and RAH will be left standing in the rain.

The above shameless rumor is substantiated to a degree by the FACT (not rumor) that RAH has asked to accelerate the CHQ contract negotiations.

Then, of course, there is the other rumor that certain highly placed individuals representing both RAH and Republic Airlines have been traveling frequently (compliments of UAL) between IND and ORD.

What fun!

Dear Mr. Siegel:

Letter of Agreement 83, Accelerated Small Jets, states “no aircraft will be placed into revenue service for Republic Airlines under the US Airways code except with the approval of the Association.â€￾

The Association has been informed that the pilots of Chautauqua Airlines, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, ratified the “Jets for Jobsâ€￾ protocols on March 28, 2003. The Teamsters represent this ratification to be “unconditionalâ€￾.

Since the Chautauqua pilots have now indicated that they are willing to participate in the “Jets for Jobsâ€￾ program, the Association sees no need for Republic Airlines to operate as a US Airways Code Share partner. With the approval of the "Jets for Jobs" protocols, US Airways should immediately implement the terms of paragraph 2.E. of Letter of Agreement 83 and place additional Chautauqua small jets into service in accordance with the Letter of Agreement.
