You know that the IBT is quiet, and nobody on our side knows what's going on. They know that the can't get a contract no time soon, now that the merger is announced. I'm sure that ALL future contracts for every work group is up for re-negotiation on both sides? (someone correct me if I'm wrong.) All they are saying is that they are talking with management. But IMHO, I don't think that any contract would be in place no time soon. Which all this leaves us in sort of limbo, where you have to walk on eggshells for a year or more. You are constantly watching yourself and don't screw up, cause you will get fired, since you have no representation, and there is no more EIT. (EIT was shut down the day after the election result was announced) Of course the IBT will say anything. Don't mean nothin' though.
We also know that UA guys have a lot more seniority than our guys. But IMHO, I don't think that there should be a problem integrating people in hubs. I know that the UA people at EWR are very senior. But they have a small number of people. But since there are more UA people than CO people, I hope that representatives from both parties can start to talk with each other, bounce some ideas off each other and see if we can find a way to work together. Also, IMHO, if there were an an election between the IBT and the IAM, I think that the IAM would win. The IBT are great organizers (but that went the already discontent of management and an upcoming merger) that they capitalized on. You can bet that they will say anything to be the bargaining agent for the ramp. But I think with the sudden merger announcement, I think that took them a bit by surprise, and now they can't get a contract. But that hurts us in the long run, since we have no representation, and we can be fired without just cause for a mishap. Just look at the announcement last month about the 6 outstations that were getting ready to be axed. (But with the merger, that was put on hold). But you get the picture.
Personally, I don't care which union represents us. As long as we get a good contract with scope; pay raises (higher pay on the steps & top out); better benefits; and work rules. That's what I and a lot of people on my side wants. We been without a union for a long time, and we know how it feels to be the ATM for the other workgroups. I'm looking forward to meeting some of the UA guys in the near future and would love to learn more about UA, and the differences in just basic work rules and such. You guys have differences and so do we in the way we do things, but we know that both of our people can turn a flight, get all the bags; freight; mail; & comat on board, and get it out on time. I have one suggestion though.........please change your bag tags............!!!
