United Airlines today announced it is strengthening its international network by launching two new nonstop flights from the United States to Asia and South America. Daily, nonstop passenger and cargo service between Los Angeles and Hong Kong and between Washington, D.C., and Rio de Janeiro will begin October 2007. Flights are now open for sale.

"We are pleased to enhance our Asia service for our Los Angeles customers, as well as continue to strengthen Washington Dulles as our East Coast international gateway,"

Did this new IAD-GIG flight replace some other GIG or GRU flight, or did UA get some new Brazil frequencies?

United will not do the second nonstop to gru seasonal this year. Instead doing IAD-RIO.... nothing new for us.
we alread fly GIG as a tag on from gru.

LAX to HKG is important as Hong Kong is UA's second most important Asia-Pacific market. I'm quite surprised UA ever stopped flying the route, as Cathay has 3 744 daily. Delta will probably put some of their 777LR's in 2008 to HKG too.
