What would happen to the Rampers at NWA, if Delta merge with NWA and the unions got voted out?

If you want to vote against the union, you must want a frozen pension (with a Social Security off-set, no spouse death benefit), inferior medical, dental insurance, no layoff protection, no work rules (if their is such a thing at Delta),not be able to work in 40 cities (compared to Delta's 15), and have Delta Global Services hanging over your head for the rest of your career.

I think the union will be voted in, don't you?, or do you think that Delta is going to take care of their employees. If you do, keep on drinking the Kool-Aid.

That's right Airlinelifer we do have a Social Security off-set I been forgetting to mention it. I beg you NWA employees please vote in the union.

I don't think that will be too much of a problem once NWA people see how little layoff/displacement protection there is over at DL compared to here.

As much contempt as there is for the union, what we still have left seems miles above what you guys currently have...

I'd say the biggest immediate aim is to get the DAL Kool-aid drinkers in ATL to see the advantages that a CBA will bring to them. The paternal culture they grew up with is long gone. I imagine it'll be a ahrd sell, though; if Ron Allen and his 7.5 plan, and then later BK didn't do it, I don't know what will.

A close second would be to make sure any furloughees know what's up, so they can vote; even if they've "washed their hands" of this place. (I think they're eligible to vote????)

Speaking of pensions! Last year I read an article which stated that NW has something like fifteen years to make up it's pension under funding. With this I have a couple of questions:

1. Is NW sincere about funding employee pensions?

2. What is going to happen to NW employee pensions either way?

You folks who work for the airline have some serious concerns here.

At the end of the day imagine:..A large poster with a picture of Dougie and Richard standing side by side, with big smiles on their faces.Next to them, the I.A.M logo..at the bottom in quotes "come on,who you gunna trust?".

I understand the contempt towards the union,I have lived through my city being outsourced.I have had to relocate to keep working, but I guess at least I had that choice. If things go the way big business would like, the airline industry is destin to mirror the large auto makers.I can not imagine the big "3" working without organized labor and contracts. That indusrty is now suffering as well and Ford is offering 54,000 people a buy out.Without their union this buy out would simply be "good bye"...nice knowing you.Richard has been in the papers making all kinds of promises to the Delta folks ie🙁were keeping our name, headquarters staying in ATL,our people will keep their seniority,ect,ect)..making himself out to be some kind of hero. The only way to be sure you get what he promises is to have it in writing..............That would be called a Contract.......
Good luck all.....were gunna need it.

For those that don't know what a "CBA" is, its a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Why do you think the pilots union (ALPA) has so much power, they know that their CONTRACT or CBA is being enforced.

The #1 thing I fear the MOST for the ESE's is the IAM.

About a dozen guys with baseball BATS need to march into the Unionhall(s) of DTW and MSP, and put those "bastards on NOTICE", that IF any deals are cut with Anderson/Steenland(think letting Swissport or DGL be "counted" in to determine a Union YES or NO,.....OR RA/DS agreeing to a Union, but trying to "water down" the present ESE group with SP/DLG, then......the IAM does so with "CONSEQUENCES".

It kills me KEV, to say(unfortunately) that with a combined DL/NW, that the total numbers are in the favor of a NO union for the AMT's and F/A's. At least you guys have a some what better than 50/50 chance of keeping things status quo.

Sure, I can see the benefit in having a union. Just look at how well the NWA AMTs made out.

Southwest's fourth-quarter profit nearly doubles

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Southwest Airlines reported Tuesday that fourth-quarter profit almost doubled despite higher jet-fuel prices as it expanded domestic capacity.
The Dallas-based carrier said earnings were $111 million, or 15 cents a share, up from $57 million, or 7 cents, in the year-earlier period. Revenue rose 9.5% to $2.49 billion.
On an adjusted basis, earnings per share totaled 12 cents. Analysts had been expecting 10 cents, according to Thomson Financial.
During the quarter, Southwest boosted its traffic 4.2% on a capacity increase of 5.6%, helped by rivals that reduced seat capacity in some of the Southwest's markets.
Furthermore, quarterly fuel costs came in below what management had anticipated -- thanks to fuel hedging.
"We've done a great job managing our overall cost structure, holding our excluding-fuel unit cost relatively flat over the last two years," said Chief Financial Officer Laura Wright on a conference call.
"With respect to our 2008 unit-cost outlook, we are expecting some inflation, especially in our maintenance area, and, to a lesser degree, our port costs," she said.
"Although we are taking a cautious approach to our overall fleet growth in 2008, we currently plan to grow our [available seat miles] 4% to 5% on a year-over-year basis and remain well-positioned to respond quickly to favorable market opportunities," Chief Executive Gary Kelly said in a statement.
Southwest also said it would buy back as much as $500 million of its stock under a new plan. For 2007, the airline said it purchased 66 million shares for a total of $1 billion, an average of about $15.15 each.

Answer 1, Only if you count the sincerity of them eliminating a paid pension in lieu of a 401K (unmatched) plan. Pension eliminations are part of Dick and Dougs "NEW" airline business model.

Answer 2, When I see a dime of it, I'll let you know.

Don't be a sucker.

As it has been said before this is not going to happen. The union are coming, the union are coming. It's all in the numbers. DL is a larger airline, while NW still employes more true mainline rampers to DL. Even with the bitter taste of the BK contract in our mouth, (till 2011), we know better than to "relax" and "trust that we have your best instrest in mind". How much kool-aid do you guys at DL drink a day. The DL managment has done nothing but rape the ramp over and over again and DL ramp does nothing to oganize and protect yourselves. Some may call me a "blowhard", others may post their sarcasm here with all their stupit icon faces(UALTECH), but the fact remains these fu*ks don't care about us or the stock holders. They are in it for themselves. We need to be in it to protect ourselves. Stop drinking the kool-aid and snap out of it DL.

They drink lots. Some bathe in it. Others use it for skin protection in the summer months. Some wear it as a badge of honor. Most Delta non-unions pray to the Delta kool-aid.....and when they have run out of reasons to defend their consumption of the DAL non-union beverage, they'll quickly tell you it's their God-given right to not vote for a union, even if it is detrimental to their careers in air travel service.

EVERY non-contract, non-pilot, non-union DAL employee is going to pay the price for not being organized......even myself. But I'll certainly relish in my "I told you so's" this time around, because they have been more than adequately warned! All the promises in the world by the DAL kool-aid pushers aren't going to mean diddly when the real merger party begins. Heck, a lot of the non-union beverage consumers aren't even going to be invited to the merger party, contractually speaking, that is!

I wonder if these new Kool-Aide shoes come with steel-toes and oil resistant heels and soles. (I couldn't resist).
