United Express on Wednesday added three new direct flights from Albuquerque to Los Angeles.

The new flights mark another expansion of air service in Albuquerque by United, which until a few years ago offered only flights to Denver. United Airlines (NASDAQ:UAUA), which operates United Express, maintains a major hub in Los Angeles.

Daniel Jiron, a spokesman for the Albuquerque city aviation department, says the airline's new flights will be handled out of its existing gates at the Albuquerque International Sunport. The three new daily flights, he says, will not significantly increase the airport's passenger traffic but are important because they make connections easier for United passengers traveling elsewhere out of Los Angeles, particularly the Far East.
