United To Cut Transcons

200 people on a 757?!? 🙁 Ouch!! UA planes hold 24/156 and I thought THAT was tight.
CO is 24/165...31" in the back. UA's also 31" in the back, but E+ gets an extra 5". US has 32" in coach, which is the best of the mainlines, now that AA has LRTC.

UA gets a higher density because they only have lavs at first and aft.

Great move by United. It is about time that they started to focus on the business travler. One can only cut costs so much- then it becomes a revenue issue. By doing this, they are improving services targeted towards the lucrative group of travelers, whom provide a lot of the airline's revenue. It is about time they do just that and they did.

If UA did their homework, they obviously believe some premium revenue can be made with these transcon markets. I would have to agree. Sure, AWE and JBU have stepped in with some low fares to attract a certain type of crowd, but that's it... a piece of the pie, but not the whole. There's a lot of people out there that want more, and are willing to pay for it. You have the 2 largest metropolises in the US, along with Silicon Valley. Big business, big O&D. UA wants loyal customers. They want to offer a better product for their premium flyers and possibly attract others away from their competitors. A bold move that I believe will eventually pay off.

BTW, there are only 8 B762s currently flying the transcon markets with each configured with 168 seats. If UA is setting aside 13 75's with 110 seats each with additional frequencies, it's actually more capacity than currently scheduled.

Nope, it's a major reduction in capacity. There are no additional frequencies announced. Currently, UA flies 24 flights daily between JFK and LAX/SFO, each with 168 seats. 24 flights with 110 seats each equals a reduction in capacity, not an increase.

It may also equal a reduction in aircraft utilization, but no increase in capacity, which is usually measured in ASMs.

So Ronin, I suppose you have never owned a Japanese or German car? Ever consumed anything made in Britain, Mexico, Vietnam, Italy or pretty much anywhwere else the US had military fights with? Would not want to forget the past I am sure and I know you do not hold a double standard 😉

If you can never get over the past you are going to die a miserable soul. But it is your miserable life to do with what you want.

I have completely forgotten about the IAM pins that said "full pay to the last day" and the inevitable strut leak on the 767 found just minutes before push for a fully loaded eurpean flight. Just glad to see that you people were above any type of attnetion getting job actions.

Ronin, mabye, just maybe, this will help bring those customers back to United. I flew during the summer of hell, it was hell. This sounds like a big improvement over that hell, so hopefully it will help bring back some of those customers.

Japanese German or Italian products I am sure suffered initially after the war. But a comparisson of that generation who bravely fought it, vs. the technology driven me, me, me generation of today. Its just hard to compare a war of nearly 60 years ago. To a job action only a few years ago.

The truth is whether its United, AA or someone else. When you screw over or lose a high value customer, its a lot of work, time and money to win back the chance to serve them again.

People generally don't forget. When given another chance, they hope that they don't have to go through a similar situation again. The slightest transgression though throws there thinking back to the event that led them away.

The bigger question might be is, How will AA respond? Don't expect a wait and see mentality there. With 43% of the market share to protect. After going after and matching JB nearly every step of the way. They will do far more to protect there premium transcon customer base.

What is UA's marketshare on the TranCon routes these days FAMikey? I was under the impression that it is somewhere in the high 20's%.

Hey guys looks like it is a great and creative product. I give it two thumbs up

Aviation daily puts AA at 43.3% to Uniteds 25.2%.

The point I was hoping to make with RONIN is that as a UAL employee he has to get over the past and concentrate on the future. His inability to see that the job and industry has changed is making him bitter and cynical to a point of being impossible to deal with.

If he as an employee can not take the steps neccessary to work in the current conditions then perhaps this field was not ment for him.

For the passengers sake I hope that they have ridden UAL and seen the positive changes that have occured since 2000. The airline is carrying record load factors with the highest on-time and completition factor we have ever seen. For those that have come back, a sincere thanks and those that haven't I ask that you give us an honest chance to earn your business.

Thanks

Oh...I get it...sort of like the wife who cleans out your bank account, wrecks your car and f**ks your brother but still says she loves you right???? Well, when put that way, who cannot forgive and forget?
Let me EXPLAIN to you my friend, I put the past aside everyday I suit up. I fight tooth and nail to put the best airplanes up that I can (and I'm not alone on this). I will do my best to find the part SOMEWHERE to ensure our passengers have the best experience on our aircraft (which are crap btw). We have the best DF/CF cleared rate of any station in the system, and I'm telling you...it ain't easy. I believe everybody is doing their best in all areas of our company....we are fighting for our lives BUT, I will NEVER EVER forget the sh*t that has gone on here
