Congrats to all. Each piece just keeps falling in place -- now, does anyone know what the puzzle is suppose to look like?

Chip,

Do you have confirmation that hub-to-hub codesharing was one of the carve-outs of the UA/US codeshare? I'm not aware of it.

The federal government cannot disapprove a domestic code share agreement. The DOT can extend a review for up to 180 days and then it must proceed. However, if the DOJ believes there are antitrust concerns they can file suit to block the integration, which may take up to two years to appear on a courts docket, e.g. NW & CO for example.

If DL, CO, & NW agree to the same restrictions imposed on UA & US on joint pricing, joint scheduling, and sales functions; as well as agree to not code share on hub-to-hub flights and flights to distinations from EWR, LGA, & JFK, I suspect their agreement will move forward.

The losers - AA, WN, & HP. However, the three-way alliance will hurt UA & US as well.

UAL777flyer asked: “Chip, do you have confirmation that hub-to-hub codesharing was one of the carve-outs of the UA/US codeshare? I'm not aware of it.â€￾

Chip answers: UAL777flyer, Reuters reported, “Although the deal can go forward, United and US Airways cannot code share on overlapping nonstop service, including their hub-to-hub routes. For example, this would include flights from Philadelphia to Los Angeles.â€￾

The two airlines have agreed to restrictions proposed by the Justice Department that are intended to limit the possibility of anti-competitive behavior, and each airline has represented to us that it will continue to compete independently on fares and service levels, said Read Van de Water, the DOT's assistant secretary for aviation and international affairs.

The only problem now is with 250 less reservation agents who will take the extra calls?...We have been having over 100 calls on hold now,... before the next 250 more agents leave...We already had Dayton, Syracuse, Indy & San Diego close this year...Were down to only 3 Res centers left...Will the Dave Speigel message say. your call is important to us...not important enough to have sufficient associates to answer your calll...Please call Delta Airlines or Southwest Airlines to answer your call...Please be assured that you can screw up your own reservation online...or book with Priceline or Hotwire who will sell you tickets to leave at 5am or 11pm, that are not changeable...Have a nice day..((Operator recording))(You are caller number 375 on hold...your call will be answered in 3 hours and 47 minutes..)......

It's called USAirways.com. Unless you have a very complicated itinerary or have a very specific question, it's usually easier to book through the internet. I prefer seeing entire flight schedules in front of me rather than rely on a a res. agent to tell it to me over the phone.
