united usairways deal may be falling apart

…

Also those of you still bitter about your 2 BK’S need to keep remembering it wasn’t DP who put you into either of those situations … As long as DP has been running the show neither AWA or us airways has been back to court . That’s a record I want to keep intact .

First of all, Freedom, I think it's great you have such passion about the company and have a true desire to save US Airways. I do think you need to look at the entirety of the situation concerning Doug Parker. While it is true that we as the new US Airways have not gone back into Chapter 11, can you imagine what better position we could be in today had management stopped for a moment before making the many knee jerk decisions that have cost US money and remembered that the business customer is king? Perhaps if Doug was as passionate about paying the employees of the combined US/AWA top scales as he was when attempting to buy Delta, maybe, just maybe the employees of both East and West would be a tad bit more productive.
and not be "bitter."

Speaking of bitter, I am sick and tired of people in the West painting anyone who has an opinion on the East as being "bitter". It is so tired and just no longer effective. If you want the correct word, use numb because that is how most of us who have been around with this company for a while feel; numb because what seemed impossible to do by anyone in business 101, mustless a CEO of a major airline has been accomplished---Take a company with a horrible name and reputation and make it worse! Nothing surprises me and frankly, nothing shocks me either. As long as the check clears and they no longer come to me to supplement low fares instead of raising prices, I could really care less what this place does. THAT is called NUMB TO IT ALL! <_<

NOT dealing with "Biased Opinions" I'm dealing in FACTS! Perhaps you'veheard of them.

FACT: DP was Convicted and as I said before Character Counts
FACT: Zagat's Survey along with a few others trashed US Airways
FACT: The mere mention of DP's scarry talent caused DL's employees to band together and stop that merger
FACT: DEAD LAST in Consumer Compliants with the DOT for whatever reason. Last is Last
FACT: Publically admitted failure during the Res Migration
FACT: Doug Parker quoted as saying "WE haven't been running a very good airline"

All of the above is a matter of public record and not the biased opinion of one Robert "PineyBob" Johnson. Now you can run but you can't hide from the FACTS

US is better off IMO finding one or more merger partners that are smaller and easier to digest than an albatross like UA.

Your facts are a tad weak …

1. DUI , you do know our legal limit here is 0.8 right ? That’s freaking WEAK , go to the bar have two or three beers and your over the limit … WEAK….(wasn’t DP at 0.8?)

2. We’ve been trashed by the Zagat's Survey along with a few others ? Oh nooooooo , that explains why we ONLY made 450 million last year ! Nooooooooooo … my profit sharing check could have been so much more if not for the zagat survey … my point here is this argument is weak because as long as we’re making money we’re doing whatever it is we NEED to do …. Cash Is KING …

3. DL ? DL made a serious mistake , they thought they could go It alone , but only later did they realize what bone heads they had been , now their cozying up to NW and as far as labor problems go this is a match made in hell !

4. Ok publicly admitted failure , well I’d be scared of someone too big to never say they were wrong or made a mistake … and we’ve sense recovered from that short term problem ….

5...when did he say it ? Under what context did he say it ? Quoting someone out of context you could take their words and twist them however you like ….

Face it … he’s a financial guy , in an economy where oil has risen to 130 a barrel and wall street is shutting it’s doors to lending , THIS is the kind of guy you need , NOT an operations specialist …

also the bigger we are , the longer it could take us to fall ... and in this race to the bottom against the other big guys , it's last man standing!

Freedom, If DP is doing such a good job running this airline and pleasing high yield customer like me are rarely flying the airline.

I have flown US since 1974 and averaged more than 75,000 mile per year since. I had seen the good bad and the ungly, until DP and crew made the 'old' ugly look great.

Had been a CP since that level started until 2008

in 2007 paid $0.9323 per RASM on US

Res migration software changes x-canceled 11 reservations in the first six months, on res less than 48 hrs old.

Has the worst FC product in domestic service

Removed closets, my suits (we do wear them on the east coast) now get 'trashed' in the overhead.

Lost $15,000.00 of my business in April & May to NW & CO because of their poor product even though US had better scheduled time for my flights.

So please explain to me how DP will be saving your job when a former high yield customer is now flying other airlines, and my revenue is equal to about 8 of the kettles with break even fares? I am flying more than ever this year.

The reason I have left, poor res system, poor web page (problems making res) poor FC product, poor on-time performance, ability to correct a mis-connect in a reasonable time, etc. I also have been left at PHL when the door closed at -10, and my inbound was late. I did not like driving to MHT that night. And I agree with the poster that the schedule is close to false advertising.

The worst part of this, US has never tried to get my business back. 2 years ago when I dropped from gold to silver with DL they wrote me and asked me if they did something wrong.

I am currently Pltm NW, Gold US, PE UA, Silver DL. so I fly alot and other airline WANT my business. But US is courting the crowd that does not fly as much during slow economic times, so again how is DP stratergy giving you job security?

Sorry for my long rant on your misguide opinions of the high yield flyers

"So everyone should just sit back and see what comes on Thursday. This meeting is by no means an indication that talks have resumed."
Oh...ok, I feel much better now. We will all sit back and wait for your next update. From what I understand, the talks never ended, they just slowed down. Whatever happens is anyone's guess??? IMHO

I’d like to join you in your pity party over the fact that sometimes we can’t provide service to our non-revs … people who are flying our airline for free … ourselves actually ….

I disagree with your premise, specifically that folks are flying for free. I agree that employees are not providing cash to the company for their right to travel using their standby privileges, however that does not make their travel "free". The employees, as part of their employment package, accept reduced wages in exchange for the right to be able to travel without paying actual cash for a normal standby seat. That means that they have paid for that seat through their continuing employment.

Let's turn this around and maybe you can understand my point. If the airline were to waive a magic wand and legally be able to say there would be no more free travel and that we are not increasing your hourly wages to compensate for the loss of that free benefit, how many folks would stay and work for the airline? Also, how many of the better performers in their job classifications would stay for the same wages, less flight benefits?

Freedom,

I am glad you are worried at oil being $130.00/barrel. It take alot of fuel to fly the Kettles around the country on break even fares. It takes less fuel to fly one high yield customer like I was around than 8 Kettles for the same RASM.

I am a 'financial guy' myself. And if I were running the show I would love to have a great operations guy who could do more with less. Us financial guys just know how to cut to make a profit, the problem with that at some time we would cut so much out, there will be nothing left in the product that someone would pay for. That is what made CO so great, they had a great operations person in Bethune, and backed him up with a fantastic bean counter. It was a team and the results have been outstanding.

Scottsdale police spokesman Sgt. Mark Clark said Friday the results of Parker’s blood test came back showing his blood-alcohol level was 0.096, more than the state’s legal limit of 0.08.

US Airways chief Doug Parker was convicted twice before of drunken driving, both times in his twenties, he said on Friday. The 45-year-old CEO of the Tempe-based airline made the announcement late Friday after being contacted by reporters about past convictions.

Three DUIs, shows he doesnt care or learn from his mistakes.

He said he had three beers in a few hour period, a man of his size three beers in two hours would not make you .096, it is clear he is lying.

United and US Airways head for talks

Unlike Delta's agreement to merge with Northwest, whose modest cost savings targets placated Washington but underwhelmed investors, the synergies promised from a United-US Airways pact - about $1.5bn - are likely to exceed the deal's purchase price

I know, how dare DAL and NWA offer some semblance of job security to the combined workforces of said companies. I suppose we could do it the easy way and ax untold thousands of jobs to appease Wall Street, (synergies, as Doogie loves to proclaim)but thankfully, our company actually looks to its employees as part of the overall solution, not the problem.

What is this??? A Doug Parker pep rally??

Oh, please....He is no wonder boy. He was just in the right place at the right time. Get over yourself and him. You are starting to creep me out.

Funny, some mgmt at other carriers I know, have stated that parker is a laughing stock within the Airline community. I.E. falls in line with the UAL board not wanting him to have complete control untill he is groomed for a bit, and make sure he can handle a bigger entity.......

This guy that is singing him praises.......either been in the PHX sun too long, or has found some pretty good peyote out there...

The laughing stock of the airline business is the old guard disgruntled US Airways employees! The one constant hasn't been bad managment , look in the mirror!

Late night ramblings from a serious insomniac...

To me, a DUI is a very serious offense! Have any of you ever had family or friends die from a drunk driving incident? Talk about a devasting thing to go through! Also, I know some people from college who got DUIs. They were young, stupid, and thought they were invincible. Guess what, just about anybody I have ever talked to who has gotten a DUI has learned from their mistake and hasen't gotten one since. It's not that they were lucky enough not to get caught again but rather they decided to obey the law and play by the rules. Hmmm. What a concept! I can't believe DP has gotten 3 DUIs! It shows he has a poor sense of judgement! Period! People who drive after they have been drinking too much obviously have no respect or regard for the lives of others and might as well take a gun and walk into a crowded area and start firing away at anything and everything because that's basically what driving while impaired is like. You're putting so many innocent lives at risk, including your own. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

We may be "making money" but our airplanes are nasty, our service is a joke, our employees are rude, our morale is shot, our pay is below industry standard, our computer system is a nightmare, and we still have the East vs. West rivalry and I can't even figure our why we hate each other. Aren't we all employees in the same boat just trying to make a living? Why does it matter whether we are East or West? I think that is cliquish, childish, and immature but I digress. You people with an East vs. West I'm better than you chip on your shoulder need to get over yourselves! Peace! I love you all! I mean it!

The whole Pilot Nicalau Award (excuse my spelling) was totally unfair and I think someone paid the old geezer a lot of money since I don't know how any person with even a small sense of morals or ethics would think his award was morally or ethically just. The pilots needed something that was a win-win for everybody, not one side or the other. I know many of you will never get that since you are always right while the others are wrong so I'll stop here since I'm wasting valuable space on the forum.

As for the United thing - NOT GONNA HAPPEN! Sorry folks, some of you want to see it go through, others of you don't. I don't think it will happen. No, I don't have any inside knowledge. My crystal ball unfortunately is not working at the moment. I'm just a lowly junior f/a barely making ends meet. In any case, I still think it isn't going to happen, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. It didn't happen before and it won't happen now. Good! I'm glad! I didn't want the merger to happen anyway!

This merger thread is way worse than the Twilight Zone!

As a final thought to ponder, I will leave you with this:

"The speed of the leader is the speed of the gang!"

Carry on now, carry on!

The laughing stock of the airline business is the old guard disgruntled US Airways employees! The one constant hasn't been bad managment , look in the mirror!

Dude! That is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo uncool!

Peace.

Those disgruntled employees have survived two bankruptcy filings and gave back billions in concessions to keep US in business and therefore to keep HP in business, only to see bad management after bad management.

You really need a reality check, god forbid they dont drink your west koolade.
