Has LCC hired AA's PR department?

I love the comments that follow in the article. Someone would prefer "Southwestern Air" in Salisbury instead.

Question - does the airline have any notation in the record or way of knowing before the passenger shows up that they are military? Would have he been bumped if he checked in earlier online or does it seem that he checked in after everyone else already had and then it went into an oversell?

There are 3 daily, 50 seat Dash-8's from SBY to CLT. Was another flight not an option? Next day? Routing him up to PHL and then down to CLT? Did he and his family really plan such a tight window to get him to NC where they couldn't have thought to fly him a day or two earlier (if that's an option?). And, what has the military done in other situations when someone doesn't show up due to an airline issue like this? If he had lived in California, driving would not have been a viable option.

Side note - if I was a passenger witnessing this, i would have given up my seat as long as US could get me there within 24 hours.
