Us Air Creditors Back Plan To Dump Labor Contracts

Gee I wonder how the unions within these major companies (i.e. GE, Airbus, etc) would feel if a judge were to set precedent and abrogate union contracts. Maybe they need to be aware that their management is encouraging union busting!!!

US Airways hopes to save more than $650 million annually by voiding contracts and cutting pensions alone. Union employees, excluding pilots and some other workers who negotiated separate giveback deals, are working under a court-approved 21-percent pay cut through mid-February.
this makes one wonder if the new lorenzo's have circumvented the legall process and exploited loopholes in the labor laws...looks like a BINGO to me.....
will these groups who did not come to a pre-bk agreement also be penalized for their lack of willingness to jump on the bandwagon before a bk filing???
these groups , obviously didn't jump in out of their responsibility to provide the best means available of protection to their members...so should they bear a heavier burden than those who have previously come to terms???
are they going to be suffering a penalty ?
why screw the retire'ees......
all they are showing here is a conversion to JET BLUE STANDARDS
transformation at the expense of you and i with no equitable outcome...my way or the highway.... live free or die....
i say screww GE and the others who are so insistant .......fugg'em..............
vote no..........

I can't help but ask if the contracts are indeed thrown out, then what is the sense of an employee paying more union dues any further beyond the date of the imposition of revised company policy and mandates?
In a sense the union has now failed the employee and he/she is now under the scope of downtrodden pay and benefits outlined by the company, not the UNION. Correct me if I'm wrong..

Quote: WASHINGTON, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Major creditors holding billions in claims on Tuesday supported plans by US Airways (UAIRQ.OB: Quote, Profile, Research) to void labor contracts covering thousands of workers if the bankrupt airline cannot obtain voluntary concessions from key unions.

The committee of unsecured creditors, which includes General Electric Co. (GE.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , plane maker Airbus (EAD.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) , Electronic Data Systems Corp (EDS.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , and other companies, said in a statement the bankruptcy court should also approve US Airways' attempt to throw out two employee pension plans and cut retiree medical benefits, if necessary.

Anyone know how to get a nation wide boycott started? Seems to me if they don't want us to have any money, we shouldn't be spending it on anything they might sell!

i say it is time to stop buying ge products. say to them go to he!! we dont need your sh!t why cant the unions tell the judge how do we the victims of usair's reckless endangerment mgmt vampires suppose to make a living? especially those of us who have kids or are raising a kid as a single parent?

Corporate America's grand plan is done legally thru a corrupt legal system slanted against labor. Unless and until there is an up rising, people who worked their entire lives will see everything they worked for taken away by the stroke of some old man’s pen called a judge who is supposed to be a symbol of justice, where is the justice? When the masses can't take it anymore, become united and effectively shut the entire country down, until then this trend will continue and corporate America will dictate your very life.

Around here in Pittsburgh people call in the talk shows saying the U employees make too much anyway and it happened to them, "steel mill closing" and now it's the U employees turn. That kind of divided attitude and apathy plays right into the hands of corporate America while they systematically destroy everything the unions fought and won over decades, they do this and at the same time award top management millions and millions. I ask where in God's name is the outcry! Where is the outrage! Until people stand firm and united, expect what's happening to continue until corporate America has labor where they want them, down down down down.

People will come on here and bad mouth me, people like pineybob who talk about personally responsible, personally responsible doesn't mean everyone for themselves, just look at what all for yourselves is accomplishing today.

Until people stand together not only will this insanity continue but IMO people deserve to be slaughtered for not having the backbone to say enough and make a stand! Wars were fought over these kinds of social issues for good reason, it’s called the human condition.

My 2 cents.

American workers will never be able to compete against Chinese workers…Mexican workers…ect....who earn pennies a day.

That does nothing but lower our standards in this country. Class warfare..?? No, just the hard cold facts that I won’t be able to buy that new car, that new dishwasher, or any those products that corporate America wants me too. I just don't have the moneyanymore.

We better wake up in this country….Our children’s future depends on it.

If the court grants the company permission to abrogate the contracts, how is that a failure by the union? The truth of the matter is that the unions seldom, if ever, have the court on their side in these circumstances.

The union has never "set pay and benefits." The union has negotiated with the company for the best pay and benefits that the company is willing to provide.

You're exactly right, We better wake up...What's going on around us has a name, it's called Globalism....The filthy rich are getting richer while the middle class of this Country continues to erode....[by design]. Ross Perot was right...

You better educate your children within an inch of their lives. If your children don't become "knowledge" workers they probably won't have very good lives.

Throw away the big screen TVs and the new cars. Invest in tutors for your kids and insist they do their homework. And make them study something "hard" (like math/science/engineering/computer sci) so they develop serious intellectual skills.

You are correct, vc10, and if I might add, tell your kids to think selfishly when going out into the biz world. It IS about you and loyalty to a company will get you no where. If you are not getting what you are worth from the company , seek another place. Those words alone build confidence. It's a bit more difficult to take that advice if you are in your 50's, have a family, mortage, and work for a dying company. The habits and routines definitely start when you are young.

Great advice, vc10. 😉

As far as investors backing the company to dump the contracts?
Are we to be shocked?

much like the labor strife in the late 1800 and early 1900's ,eh??
whats that line??
those who don't learn from history tend to repeat history?

Well you know what the anwer to you will be...pick one.
just leave
nobody is keeping you here
you are just bitter
you are just angry
you are just militant
blah, blah, blah, same old responses will follow
or
all the above.

I agree with your post 100% All you have to do is look at the reaction here in the US when a country like France stands up and says NO by having national strikes. We have allowed law makers and fear instilling ceo's to pussy-whip the American work force. I guess we deserve what we get.

So deano, just shut up and take it like a man. Don't make waves now, you here? (sarcasm) <_<
