You better educate your children within an inch of their lives. If your children don't become "knowledge" workers they probably won't have very good lives.

Throw away the big screen TVs and the new cars. Invest in tutors for your kids and insist they do their homework. And make them study something "hard" (like math/science/engineering/computer sci) so they develop serious intellectual skills.

"knowledge jobs" are now being shipped off to India. It is said that engineers are having a hard time finding a job. (Unless , of course, you are willing to go to Sadia Arabia or Iraq).

Around here in Pittsburgh people call in the talk shows saying the U employees make too much anyway and it happened to them, "steel mill closing" and now it's the U employees turn.

I was in Pittsburgh during the Thanksgiving Holiday and saw on the local new that the Pennsylvania Turnpike employees were striking, or were planning to strike, for high wages and benefits. Interesting thing is they to are being bashed by, not only Pittsburgh, but by Pennsylvanians about not only all the nepotism that runs within the system, but the huge wages that are paid to pothole fixers, ticket booth workers and snow removal opeators. WTAE reported that average employee salary in the Turnpike system is $54,000.

...and the turnpike workers were striking because they wanted to continue to pay nothing for health care insurance, as well as get an extra couple thou a year in pay. Don't worry though, every Joe and Jane Doe in PA is going to pony up for it.
