Airlines (and every other for-profit business) should charge the maximum price that yields maximum profit. Instead people view airlines as quasi-public utilities and like to micromanage their business through such silliness as a Passenger's Bill of Rights.

Any increase in business costs pass directly through to consumers.

Just like the airline windfall with the congressional refusal to fund the FAA and, until public outcry otherwise, the airlines intended to keep the "taxes" for themselves.

Corporations never pass through "profits" unless they are forced to. That, would be, NEVER.
