Airline and Football Team Announce Corporate Sponsorship

TEMPE, Ariz., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- US Airways (NYSE: LCC - News) blitzes into the new year with the announcement of a new partnership with the Carolina Panthers. In addition to promotions and stadium signage at Bank of America Stadium, US Airways will paint the Panthers' logo and team colors on a US Airways plane, to be unveiled later this year.

"The Carolina Panthers are one of the most exciting teams in football and no one knows that better than our Charlotte employees," said US Airways Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Travis Christ. "We look forward to a long-lasting partnership, giving Panthers fans and the citizens of Charlotte their very own aircraft. And we're delighted to place the US Airways name in the beautiful, state-of-the-art Bank of America Stadium."

"This sponsorship agreement reinforces the strong relationship that has been in place since we began playing in Charlotte between the Panthers and US Airways," says Team President Mark Richardson. "US Airways has been the carrier of the team over the years and we are pleased to enhance that association with this agreement. US Airways will be an Official sponsor of the team and we are excited that such a strong and viable brand in our community has given us the opportunity to help grow their business. The Carolina Panthers and US Airways enjoy a visible position in the Carolinas and our partnership reflects the spirit of cooperation that has made that possible."

US Airways employs more than 4,700 aviation professionals at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, many of which are die-hard Panthers' fans. It's the airline's largest hub, offering 534 daily flights to 122 non-stop destinations.

US Airways is the fifth largest domestic airline employing nearly 35,000 aviation professionals worldwide. US Airways, US Airways Shuttle and US Airways Express operate approximately 3,800 flights per day and serve more than 230 communities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. The new US Airways -- the product of a merger between America West and US Airways in September 2005 -- is a member of the Star Alliance, which provides connections for our customers to 841 destinations in 157 countries worldwide. It's pretty cool they'll be painting another plane but why in God's green pasture do they paint the A319 and not a bigger plane like an A321 or a B757? Honestly the A319 painted in the teams colors looks just plane silly especially when the teams don't typically travel on an A319. Makes no sense whatsoever.

The plane is just a billboard. A really cool one though.
