US Airways wants A321 Neo

It feels as if it take the A321 a lot longer to get to 10,000ft after takeoff. It certainly feels that way when doing a transcon. I swear that plane hardly moves. I agree about the "office" part. The airbus is usually cool, bright has a larger galley in back and more comfortable. I still love the 757. That baby is a hot rod and taking off in it is like a rocket. Nothing beats it.

At least not yet. The Boeing exec in charge of the "modify the NG's or do a new airplane" program said the other day that they may build a twin-aisle the 190-250 seat range and keep selling the NG's. He's quoted as saying that as long as airlines keep buying the NG's Boeing will keep building them.

That seat range would fit between the NG's and smallest 787 - filling a hole that nothing else from either manufacturer would fill. If Boeing could get the performance of the 757 with the range of the 767 or more, it'll probably be a popular airplane.

dont forget that the 75 can also haul a load too with it TravelPro

You don't have to know a thing about airplanes to recognize the power of the 757. The thing can take off like a rocket and land on a dime. It just feels like a powerful airplane. I love the 321 to be perfectly honest but it's just so slow. It's my understanding that designing a new wing for an airplane is a HUGE deal. It will be interesting to see what Airbus comes up with. I still can't believe the 757 line closed. 🙁

Is there a larger "stretched" version of the 757? I was watching a few of Delta's 757 in and out of the gates and they seemed to be larger than US version? And boy does Delta have plenty of em!

The 757-300. DL picked up a handful when they bought NW.

The 757 remains in a class one one. If Boeing decides to build the 757 replacement, would US really consider it seeing how mgt seems to be in love with Airbus?

So they have the airplane now- the 767 200 and the 300. Why don't they just update the avionics and re-engine the airplane, say a modified GE90 or RR Trent?

If you ever have the chance to stand close to the edge of a runway, you can tell when a 757 is taking off without looking, it has the distinct sound of raw power...

I was talking to an FAA inspector a few years back and he mentioned an A322 that had been proposed. At the time, Airbus was putting all their energy into the A380 and there seemed to be a mediocre reception to pricetag of the new single isle aircraft. I don't know what ever happened to that. I agree with the other posts...you could put bigger engines on it for climb performance (takeoff performance has never been the issue with the A321), but if you don't get some more lift out of the wings, it won't help you much.

I do enjoy the comfort of the A321 over that of the 757, but that would be it's ONLY advantage. None of the East aircraft are as comfortable as they were before our management crammed more seats in them. IMO, the Airbus is more comfortable to ride in than the Boeings (except the A330).

"Airbus is bringing forward the entry-into-service date for its A320neo to October 2015, and designated Pratt & Whitney's PW1100G turbofan as the lead development engine." That is nearly 4 years out for the launch customer Virgin America. Perhaps Us Airways could see the neo as soon as 2016?

About the same time as the mythical A350 - if it ever gets off the drawing board. That is - If the delivery dates arent deferred again by Tempe.
Does anyone really want to fly a A321 to europe or hawaii aside from Tempe? Really- if given a chioice? So if the A321s are going to be flying europe and hawaii, then how is the A350 going to be utilized?

As for getting more lift out of the wings...I doubt you could get much more out of them, I understand the A321 IGW (if there is such a variant) is already close to the maximum lifting ability for the A32x wings, and then there's another issue..tailstrikes. I realize that there's a larger single-aisle, the 757-300, but the landing gear is taller on that aircraft. The stretched variants of both the 737 and the A320 already have more chance of potential tailstrikes, and stretching the fuselage wouldn't help any.

The 767-200/300 is a good aircraft, but if re-engined, I do not see what engines would be used, aside from maybe a smaller GEnx. Furthermore, the 767 line is partially being replaced with the 787, so just having a 767-NG would have Boeing compete with it's own products. As for getting the 767s......if US wants more of them, there's quite a few 762s in storage, if the price is right, as well as the condition and cost of getting them back into service, it could be doable. Although I doubt they would, because of the age of the 762s that they would be able to pick up.
