US Airways Group Inc. is willing to increase its hostile takeover offer for Delta Air Lines Inc. by $1 billion under certain conditions as part of a last-ditch effort to win support from Delta creditors, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Tempe, Ariz., carrier said over the weekend that it would sweeten its $9.8 billion cash-and-stock bid to about $10.8 billion if the official committee of creditors approaches Delta with a demand that the Atlanta airline open itself to due diligence by US Airways, these people said. To get the additional $1 billion, all in cash, the committee ...

A Billion here, a Billion there......pretty soon we will be talking about some "real" moneys!!!! Greeter.

Wow! What will Parker do next? Offer up his soul?
Can you say desperate?

He just wants to see your books, scoff at your valuation, pull out of the deal to get Northwest and make it very expensive for Delta to come out of BK

You may be correct, dusty... at least according to reports at the moment on FOX.

Let me give my congrats to the "Keep Delta My Delta" camp.

Now, for Dougie's next trick... ;) Wait, maybe he needs to run the merged airline he has first.

Why does raising his bid make him desperate? Aggressive, yes! Desperate, not at all! Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. He's obviously done the due dilligence with his banks to get the money.

Kind of an ignorant statement don't you think? Doogie has in fact made it cheaper for DAL to emerge since by admitting to DAL's valuation he has confirmed the stand alone value and lowered the interest rate DAL must pay for exit financing by a significant amount. Thanks Doogie! By the way, thanks again Doogie since the pilot claim sale netted over $500 million more than the pre-takeover attempt forecast anticipated. You the man Doogie! My favorite sock puppet!!!

Finally, you are on drugs if you think NWA or any other carrier wants anything to do with Useless Air. They will fight harder than DAL did to stay away from such a doomed airline. When the hookups are finished there will be one carrier left all alone and that will be the one with no international to speak of and the handful of old 767-200's that is still trying to merge work groups from the initial merger,ie Useless Air.

i think your the only one who's useless.

wow, etops! If you even know what that is at useless air then you are probably too old to remember what it means. Kind of a dilemna, though you old farts do sound funny on the radios on those few over the pond trips you make when your planes are airworthy. Keep living the dream granddad!

Kind of an ignorant statement to say that Delta or Northwest employees have a voice on who takes over.Your only voice is ALPAs small claim. This is peanuts compared to the real money. Lets see what the investors and creditors think of LCC earnings tomorrow. It all about ROI and not your ego. Speaking of "small" claim, your arrogance must be a cover for other inadequacy's, Mr fastmover.

wow you need to grow up

Let’s be perfectly clear. US is raising its offer because the prospect of not acquiring DL is absolutely horrifying to US’ mgmt and owners.

US is:
- US is the smallest network airline in an industry where bigger is better.
- US is the most domestic network airline in an industry where every other network carrier is more than twice as global as US.
- US is the ONLY network airline that hasn’t been mentioned as a merger partner with someone who would VOLUNTARILY merge.
- US has had little success expanding its international network other than to western Europe – where it is still outgunned by every airline network airline. US’ Latin American expansion? A complete failure.
- US’ customer service is the worst in the industry based on any industrywide metric.
- US’ network is shrinking thanks to poor management that thought that concentrating US’ hubs would work – even though US has no hubs that had the economic potential to be expanded.
- US’ hubs all are being overrun by true low fare carriers that have much lower costs than US.

Doug Parker is doing everything he can to not have to compete against a strong and much larger independent Delta, to avoid “facing the music†for US’ bad strategic decisions, or to eventually be left out of industry consolidation. After Parker’s humiliating performance in front of the Senate committee last week, no one could besides him could possibly believe that he could succeed in getting a DL acquisition approved by Washington.

Delta and its employees have a last volley up their sleeve too. You’ll hear more very soon.
