USAirways CEO tries to shed airlines past.

The only standard here is how much money the big shots can take before the walls come tumbling down.

Did you forget your past? If you think that USAirways had a good reputation before Doug and the investors put this deal together, you are not dealing with reality.
If you had God running this company, you would complain and act as if you are more intelligent. Give me a break...
Name a company that doesn't have problems. Any company. THERE AREN'T ANY!
The public views this forum (for whatever reason) and can see the sheer childishness of many posts...THAT is humiliating.

WELL SAID HULA GIRL!!!!!!! YOU NOTICE THAT NONE OF THESE COWARDS EVER QUIT.....
"SHEER CHILDISHNESS" IS THE BEST WAY TO PUT IT THANX FOR THE POST ! ! !

. . . . The company says that every 1 cent increase in the price of fuel equals a $16 million increase in total fuel expense - another $800-900 million above the estimate. . . . Jim

That's pretty ominous stuff Jim, for US and every other carrier out there.

With the economy sliding downwards this means potentially less leisure/infrequent flyers, or at least folks who are extremely price-sensitive when it comes to flying. And all of this in an environment in which airlines need to raise prices to stem the bleeding from skyrocketing fuel costs. If we get into a too many carriers chasing too few flyers scenerio with the tanking economy, or a bunch of carriers playing the pricing game of the past (walking around in circle-jerk fashion raising or lowering prices in step with competitors out of fear for losing more market share ), someone ain't gonna have a chair when the music stops.

This game might come down to scales of operational efficiency. I don't think that US measures up real well in that regard, but you know better the CASMs and RASMs which put the finger on that pulse. Tempe may have spent too much time playing that fiddle of theirs the past couple of years. Might they end up like Nero? I mean on the one hand, the airlines have indeed shrunk capacity. But did they cut enough if the US economy does tank and with it, the numbers of folks flying?

"Some class" is right. I don't consider urinating on passenger's bags to be very classy. The "classy" employees you speak of did just that soon after the flights started to PHX.
Were they truely that clairvoyant?

And, Piney, as an employee, I personally thank you for holding on so long....

It really troubles me to think that after 20 years , a few divorces, a personal BK...and a hopeful recall: I am right back where I was 10 years ago....with a company that continues to wallow, the employees haven't had their souls "fed" in a long time, our most prized possessions, the FF's....are losing hope....and I have to make excuses every G-D day for the operation....

It's wrong...plain and simple.
