Hello to all who read, good day! Just wanted to ask a question to Pheonix based people. Tonight(friday), A coworkers' daughter who lives in Pheonix told him that Usair is in the news out your way. Seems the story is America West is interested in aquiring Usairways? Any truth,and/or seriousness to this "rumor"?? Any info would be greatly appreciated. We here at U are having just a wonderful time  Hope all is well with you guys!! Any info , please PM me. Thanks again! PIT Mech USAIRWAYS 😀

I am not aware of any factual basis for this story.

To many problems with unions and management. I personally just think this won't happen, but I have been wrong before........

<_< There were rummors of a TWA/ American West merger just before american bought us too! So much for rummors!!!!!! 😛

The TWA takeover was more than a rumor. It was revealed in an open letter by Bob Pastore, a former TWA pilot and member of the TWA board of directors. This may have been one of the reasons why AA acted so swiftly.

This shows clearly that AWA has had plans for a while to grow through acquisitions. Obviously those plans were put on hold after 9/11.

Recently, AWA filed a shelf registration with the SEC to raise $500 million. It is anybody's guess, what they intend to do with that money, but something's cooking. I doubt that it would be a takeover of all or part of US, though. However, some assets might very well be of interest, i.e. the 757 fleet, which happens to match AWA's 757 configuration in terms of engines and cabin layout.

Flyer, Intersting post. Some here at US have heard similar thinking. (With AWA, and $500mil, and what their intentions are) Just so you are aware, if your not already, Usairways PUBLICLY announced EVERYTHING is on the table; sale of assets/routes/equipment, reducing PIT airport debt a high priority(General thinking here is PIT is finished as a US hub). This could all be a ploy to scare US employees(they want a 3rd round of givebacks)or a genuine attempt to scale down our ops while raising much needed capital at the same time. Dave, the all glorious emporor at U, officially announced that we need to become a LCC. The only way this bloated beast can accomplish that is a massive scale down!! The simple math equasion seems clear, It may not be AWA in the picture, but our "saviour",United, is still wallowing in BK, so who knows!!! The 500mil may answer a lot of peoples' reasoning that noone has any money to buy anything!!! We'll see. Please keep me posted on any developments you may hear out in the land of cactus, if you would!!! Would be much appreciated!! GOOD DAY....MORE LATER!!!!

With recent developments here at U, my post of a month ago is interesting, indeed. US recently announced PIT no longer a hub. Any rumors out at AWA??

😀 Hello and welcome to HP. I've been watching and listening very intently but have only heard rumors about this. I will say one thing---seems like HP is more interested in making a profit. We in res are working very hard and challange our co-workers every day to be the top seller---something U never implimented. We have incentives comming out our ears and it's actually fun making reservations again. We're kind and considerate to our pax and very pleased to upgrade any pax we talk to---heck we make $5.00 every time we upgrade within 30 hours of flight. Things are much better here--as I have seen both sides of the fence. Seperating sales from service in res is a new conception to me and my seniority doesn't help on the service side, but the technology that we have in res far surpasses that of U.
Woudln't it be interesting since retiring from U and now working at HP for HP to aquire U. Some folks there would have to tow the line and actually help us make our airline some money. That's my main focus every day--make money for the company. Hence more money for ME.
Keep me posted as well--our stock runs between 9.50 and 10.50 any given day.

Dear HP - Plesae stay the course. Lots of great improvements! Focus on the direction you are going.

A few more slots into DCA would be nice and so would some better terminal positioning at other airports in the country. Why are we forced to walk to the end of the concourse at most airports besides PHX? Please buy some better gate positions at USAirways airports.

There is a lot of talk about HP being interested in the CLT hub and rumor has it discussions have taken place on this. CLT looks like a nice fit for HP especially with the fare structure implemented by your airline. While the city of CLT itself historically does not have much O&D the city and area within 90 minutes of the airport has approximately 5.65 million people that would flock to this airport for decently priced flights that HP has been providing lately IMO.

According to USairwairs "transformation plan", CLT is goint to be a primary hub, to be expanded and grown, PIT will be downsized to a focus city,
Refer to my post of 2 months ago, all has come true here at U!! The major feeling among many employees, is the ultimate sale of assets,BK, or liquidation of the company,IF the employees do not agree to a 3rd round of givebacks. This posters' personal assessment is this: some sort of merger/aquisition by HP of U assets/routes would give HP immediate acess to lucrative east coast markets(CLT hub), International, strong local traffic(PHL), VERY profitable carribean routes. Also, this companys' strong intention to ousource as much maintenance as possible, therefore, reducing our 737 fleet, what does that leave us with??? An all airbus fleet, a perfect HP match! Again, just a personal opinion from a mech at U, but, again I refer you to my post of over 2 months ago, and peices of some sort of puzzle are coming together. This is for sure, within the next 3-4 months here at U, SOMETHING is going to happen! Keep me informed of any info any of you may hear your way. GOOD DAY!!!!!.......MORE LATER!!!!

No offense, but why would HP want to take over US? A bunch of union brainwashed employees that are bitter as hell, taking over their contracts and seniority?

No one will merge with US, everyone is waiting for them to go chapter 7 so they can pick the bones of what is available. Plenty of planes sitting in the desert, plenty of unemployed folks out there that will settle for working for someone else, just to stay in the airline biz.

Sorry to paint a bleak picture, but US has known for 15 years that their costs were too high, and for 15 years they song and danced about how they were gonna make cuts, but never did, then the wolves moved in and ate them.

I have said the same thing as the previous poster in the U forum. Why would HP want to merge with U and need to pick up their higher priced employees? Perhaps HP will buy some of the assets of U, but I strongly suspect that HP would hire any workers to staff any new positions with new hires that start on the bottom of the pay scale.

Why? Because for years HP has asked for sacrafice from its workers with promises of better to come. The employees have accomodated that and to hire new and higher wage employees over HP employees would cause a lot of problems.

Amen, HP has a good thing going, and nothing good would come of picking up US, their pissed off employees, their contracts, retirees, and outstanding benefit costs. Once US goes Chapter 7, they can apply and get on the bottom of the seniority pole.

Yeah, and imagine what HP could do with US's assets. HP already knows how to compete against WN. Adding the US stations to the network would give excellent national coverage
