Have east crews gone back to variable staffing?
I know they were flying with just minimum crew
like US west for quite some time.
Will variable staffing be included in the combined
contract?
I've observed that some flights could really use
an extra hand or two.

Ahh and extra hand or two, would be nice on a packed 757 PHX-LAS when we are expected to do a FULL beverage service. But alas, we have been told those days of extra's are gone forever.

That's NOT COST Effective. When its been shown to work now why change a thing? Our flight attendants have been working with min's staffing why add more?

I can't see it changing unless pax start complaining of lack of service/specifically, timely service on longer hauls that have meals. And that will only happen when U starts to birng on more service items to serve the paxs.

When is that scheduled???

Ok I'd love to go back to when we had 26 F/As on a 757 but come on now. We don't really do anything that requires extra F/As, it's never gonna happen.

PHX- LAS total flight time, 42 minutes. On the west side we are expected to do a FULL, including hot beverages and alcohol service. With a 190 seats full on our 757's, I am sorry to say that is damn near impossible. I know the east is only required to do Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and Water and I really hope we go to your service levels......even if it pisses off the pax.

We are at minimum. I'm not sure what you saw, but maybe there were extra DHers or nonrevvers helping out. There are no extra trip-pairings at any base.

It's not near impossible, we're just not used to it anymore. East used to do hot breakfast and dinner on flights that short.

I don't understand the need for additional staffing. On shorter flights I work quickly and efficiently but I don't jump through flaming hoops to get the service done. I HAVE worked a few trips where I would have loved to claim understaffing due to the fact that the f/a I was working with either HATED passengers or could barely move. I have had both. I don't bust my rump. On the east side I think it started when they removed the D from the md-80 and 737-400. The service STILL got done and that was BEFORE all the service went away. Ever work a 757 with the B working out of the back that don't even make it to the 3L/R doors? Some service we still do I sit in traffic longer. The actual flight time should be used. They pad the PHL flights so much that the flight time is only a small portion of the block time. You folks out west will be doing the express bev soon enough on that PHX-LAX run.

The problem in the summer is our desert heat. When we fly PHX - LAS. It causes our jets to be very bummpy and then we get hit over the head for not doing service that is a danger to us by the turbulance. Its crazy.. Most of us help eachother out. It never fails usually a new hire flight attendant crew is on there first flight right out of class and working that damn PHX-LAS in the summer - WHAT A MESS! 🙄 Poor guys/gals.
Question for you easties - I've deadheaded on your PHX-LAS and no service was provided. I always hoped that it would be us. Most of us on the west know and feel that the passengers dont need a freeking beverage on a 34 min flight. What is a Express Service? Coffee - Tea - Coke? or all of it? Just wondering minds in the PHX sun wonders. 😀

Yah, I hear ya. Soon after probation, those new hires will realize that a back injury is permanent, and hardly worth $19,000/ yr.

With regards to the understaffing, which I believe exists on the 757 and 767, just give them the can and be done with it! Pax appreciate it, and it speeds you along.

BTW, are there other airlines that staff a widebody 767 with 5 domestically? I mean, have you ever seen 2 FA's in one coach aisle, and 1 in the other when there is a FC meal? IMO, there is a staffing issue here....

  I wish I made 19,000 my first year. I went back to my old W-2 of 2004 and saw that I only made 12,100.00
I wish I would have made 19,000yr... Your funny. 😀

And the great part about that is when DP says at the Crew News Sessions that we already retain the best employees, at market rate, so why would we need these raises everyone is whining about? You see, he believes we "are there" with regards to a fair, industry competitive contract.

Outraged yet? Pleeeeease let me have him on my flight. 😀 ( I used to think I would like to have S Shamblin on my flight, but as time goes on, I am just more and more convinced that she is just plain clueless.) 🙁

I did PHX LAS the other day and took it upon my pretty self to make it a no-serve. Are we supposed to? Oh well. That's too short. I can understand providing service on the Shuttle but let's face it, people are not walking up and plonking down $1000 to go from PHX to Vegas.
