VP Debate

Did I miss the memo where Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter .... accepted responsibility for their screw ups?

While there is quite a bit on Obamas plate that he owns, lock stock and barrel there is the fact that Bush started to huge land occupation wars that were not/are not funded and granted tax cuts at the same time. Cannot un-ring that bell.

AMTRAK, where it effects Paul Ryans state of Wisconcin.

The US DOT awarded Wisconcin $$ to upgrade the Chicago to Milwakee/Madison route, to High Speed Rail.
The combined population between these(STRAIGHT LINE) points is, as follows:

Illinois; Cook county, and Lake county...................."6" Million people, a TON who work in the Chicago area.
Wisconcin: Milwaukee, Kenosha and Racine counties...................."1.5" MILLION people, who most likely work in either the Milwaukee or Chicago area. And thats NOT counting the state capital Madison Wisconcin area, the population figures I dont have at this moment

No, but I do... Madison proper has 240,000 residents, not sure how much of that is attributable to the University of Wisconsin... The Census data for 2010 shows 568,000 residents in the Madison MSA... Not exactly huge.

Projections showed that ~20% of the line's costs would be covered by fare revenue. Hardly worth pursuing that new infrastructure when you have aging infrastructure that really needs replacement...

Kev, long-term, the MSN-MKE line would have created perhaps 55 full-time jobs. Short term? Sure, put a couple more construction workers to work, but they'd be better used by fixing Wisconsin's deteriorating roads & bridges...

If you want to continue to talk the rail demographics, feel free to open up a new thread...

Say what you want, believe what you want, but the reality is the Barrack/Biden rail line is falling apart !
Nothing but the same ole, same ole and we can see where that has led us, in the last 4 years.
Besides, apparently I'm not the only one tired of hearing, "It's Bush's fault" ! When is the Barrack/Biden comedy-duo going to grow a pair and take any responsibility for their actions ?
It's time to boot these 2 clowns to the street, let Barrack get back to what he does best, community organizing and Biden back to his foot in mouth disease !

Rail lines falling apart? Where?

You know what I like best about Biden? He talks like the rest of us might during a discussion. Yeah, he's had some cringe-worthy moments, but at least it doesn't sound like he's reading off a pamphlet.

I listened to most of last night's debate on the radio; it sounded like a conversation/lively debate two regular people might have over dinner/at the bar/etc.

That left the remaining 80% of the line's costs for the state to pick up.

W/O looking, I'd say that MSA number is fairly accurate. I'm not sure if they count UW students (out of area ones, anyway) in that either, so for discussion purposes, I suppose we could round down to ~520k?

That said, Dane county has seen a large population increase in recent years, so those numbers could well be significantly different next time around..

I found Sen. Ryan extremely persuasive. He swung my vote from a solidly third party to a firm democratic vote. Well played Senator.

Did you finally realize that in this election voting for a third party is a wasted vote?

Not to put to fine a point on this but Paul Ryan is a member of the House of Representatives. Hope you do't mess up and vote for the wrong candidate!!

You know Kev, a MKE/MSN line would have been built most likely after ORD/MKE was built.
But here's the Rub. EVEN eolesen KNOWS that the AMTRAK ACELA (Bos/Dca) is 'cleaning trhe airlines clock', AMTRAK has to ADD 2 additional cars to all the train-sets because (drum roll please) they NEED to extra space to accomodate the load factors.

NOW, I'm going to sit back and WAIT for eolesen to tell me that a high speed route of STL/ORD/MKE would'nt be successful.

Apologies. It is a literary allusion, I should have put it in quotes.

CNN of all networks just reported 48-44 polling for Ryan winning the debate....

UH OH..Eric,

My bad Eric, I can't get the link to work.
I'm guessing http://www.reuters.com should have the link

Not worth the effort looking, Bears. What I posted was CNN's snap poll last night, and it lines up with CNBC's snap and a lot of the discussion I've heard today on the alphabet networks --- with independents and undecideds, Biden clearly lost on style for his 80+ interruptions, and inappropriate laughing.

In fact, of all the attention I've seen on the various networks today, the talking points have been 1) Biden lied about what Obama Administration knew about Libya's security situation, and 2) Biden's interruptions and smiling was creepy...

Aside from MSNBC and DailyKos/FluffnPuff, nobody is ripping Paul Ryan to pieces. He didn't gaffe. He didn't choke. He held his temper, and showed that he can be the diplomat in the face of someone practically foaming at the mouth.

Don't worry -- the results of who really won will be more than apparent in the polls that come out after the weekend, and perhaps again in about three weeks.
