Does anyone know exactly why the VP's came to Tulsa?

They heard one jet was sighted on the ramp without speed tape?

Kinda like seeing Elvis alive.

Nothing like an American Airlines canine and equestrian event.Local management scurrying around, everything made to look shipshape for the visiting VIP,don't dare let them see what AA actually looks like when the place isn't on display.

Boeing is looking for a partner and facility to do warranty work!
That was bantied about some time ago and actually sounds rather pleasant - that might be one way to be rid of the TWU before they cost us more.

I can't imagine what it would be like to work somewhere that had a real union.

Remember that Oklahoma is a Right to Work. The Boeing issue wth South Carolina and the 787 assenbly plant could cause some problems for the TWU, however it would give the TWU an excuse.

I may be wrong, but I don't think selection of AA as a warranty partner (Gold Care?) has anything to do with a Boeing takeover of TULE or removal of the TWU or the replacement with any Boeing union. It's just Boeing selecting certain MROs as preferred providers to perform warranty work on the 787. Boeing ain't looking to buy MROs.

It all would depend on how any deal is structured.

AA took a pile of Tulsa city money (Vision 2025) and in return promised to maintain employment at the facility that's leased for a piddling amount you or I could afford. AA owns precious little at that facility - the building and machinery inside is property of the Airport Trust Authority.

If AA wished to become, as you've termed it, a virtual airline, it would be a matter of refilling the facility with another tenant before their departure. It would be a matter of simply changing signs on Mingo Road and sending new deposit advice to the various banks for the DDA paychecks.

AAA TULE is not an MRO - management from Centrepork on down the food chain has torpedoed any and all attempts at this - some of the mechanics did a pretty good job to themselves also by the constant screw-ups (one aircraft I remember had over 200 mislocated holes in the structure) during the 737 winglet installations. I know because I was one of those in Tool & Die that had to fix the mechanics' mistakes. I'd have made the wankers fix their own problems or sent them home.

Management has intentionally priced themselves out of the MRO market as with Alligiant or flatly thrown those buying our "services" off the property, as with FedEx because someone wanted the hanger space.

Who says they're looking to BUY an MRO....
They can work a deal out with AA similar to the TAESL one....

CATS was playing at the Skiatook Community Theater.

Sorry, but I don't see Boeing investing in a MRO or doing a JV when there are dozens of providers who are better financed and falling over themselves to get the Gold Care seal of approval.

IIRC, the only reason Rolls did the JV was to be able to service power-by-the-hour contracts. Boeing doesn't really offer that option as far as I know.

For the record Frank, the compAAny can blame no one but themselves for all the "structure" screwups, as they're the ones who made all systems/structure mechanics "generals". Those of us in A/O know who should not be issued air tools.

Business is funny that way - provide a sound business plan and someone will be quite happy to throw money at it. Add to that the continuation of the sweet facility-lease deal AA has in TUL and perhaps the idea might look better.

That's not to say the option hasn't been thought of - if Boeing's management is partially worth its salt (unlike ours) they've considered ways to offer such an option.
