Just sitting here, wondering if the wifes flight out of ORD is going to be cancelled this evening. She called and said the place (UAL terminal) was a zoo. Talked to a fellow at her gate at 5:00 p.m. (they were 3 flights behind) [/blockquote]

What was the cause of all the snafus? Weather or other?

[P]Apparently the snow in Chicago took it's toll. Her flight from Madrid (Seville actually) arrived pretty much after the snow ended, but the terminal was a mess. She was scheduled to come home on a UAL flight at 7:40, but right now, it doesn't look like that plane will even arrive into ORD until 11:00 p.m. And you gotta love Osama....The 4:50 flight to KC was delayed until 7:00 and the agent told her that there was lots of room (and was even willing to let them go without paying the standby fee - thank you unknown UAL agent) and to head to the gate to get on it. But because of the "positive bag matching", and since her bags were "kiosk checked" onto the 7:40 flight, they wouldn't allow them to board the 4:50 (leaving at 7:00) flight. So...it's just another day at the airport. [/P]

Just sitting here, wondering if the wifes flight out of ORD is going to be cancelled this evening. She called and said the place (UAL terminal) was a zoo. Talked to a fellow at her gate at 5:00 p.m. (they were 3 flights behind) who told her that he was originally supposed to leave at 11:30, but he went ahead and paid the $100 standby fee to attempt to stand by for an earlier flight. As it turns out, the flight leaving at 5:00 [STRONG]was the 11:30 flight he was originally scheduled on[/STRONG], so he asked for a refund for his standby fee, since he ended up on his original flight. Nope, sorry - [STRONG]it''s non-refundable.[/STRONG] It''s bullsh*t like this that customers remember. Nickle and diming passengers won''t keep any airline out of bankruptcy. Your folks in the revenue enhancement department should be ashamed of themselves.

And it continues. The flight WAS cancelled. Then the differing stories begin. First, it was "ATC related", so sorry, no hotel room for you. When my wife tried to explain that they tried to get on the 7:00 departure with "plenty of seats", but was turned away because her baggage was checked on another flight, the agent told her "That's not right...for situations like this we make exceptions". They didn't though. Her flight was changed to the 10:10 flight in the morning, but the agent told her she would have to claim her bags before they could do anything else. So begins the march to the baggage claim where she is told, "No, on cancelled flights, the baggage is "vaulted" and not available for you to pick up". So, she's sleeping on a comfy cot in the ORD baggage claim area. It'd be kind of nice if everyone worked from the same playbook. My wife's got arthritis in her feet and went between terminals 3 times and then to the baggage claim. She said an FA coming off another flight was the most helpful of all - she told her the things she'd need to do to get rebooked. Man....I think they ought to screen "Trains, Planes, and Automobiles" for the refugees on nights like this.

[DIV align=left][FONT face=Verdana color=#0000cd]Due to WEATHER, SNOW and WEATHER, RWY TREATMENTS, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving Chicago OHare International Airport, Chicago, IL (ORD). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 3 hours and 3 minutes with some arriving flights receiving as much as 12 hours delay. To see if you may be affected, select your departure airport and check "Delays by Destination".[/FONT][/DIV] [BR][A href="http://www.fly.faa.gov/flyFAA/index.html"]http://www.fly.faa.gov/flyFAA/index.html[/A][BR][BR]Sounds as if they do not have the equipment in place to operate the departing flights.
