We the People

Your actually comparing the actions of one FBI sniper, who was charged with manslaughter, to the murder of 20-30 million people? That has got to be one the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

If you can't speak of the USSR then try reading a history book or a newspaper. Or in my case have a grandparent who was from that part of the world.

If you go back through history with Stalin the truth is he made Hitler look like a rank amatuer when it came to slaughtering his enemies real or perceived. I mean really who doesn't know that. Estimates range as high as 50 million.

All that is grand and good, however it doesn't make Vicki Weaver and her son any less dead. Or the Church in Waco where the FBI murdered the residents. None of those folks are any less dead.

One human life murdered by the government is one to many just as systematic genocide is. There are no degrees of sin, just sin. BTW, Any idea how many Indians we slaughtered? Or don't they count?

Like I said, the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

Maybe, however the road to tyranny is often paved by well meaning people merely trying to do good. One US Citizen murdered by their government is one to many.

Yes, but to try and make it the moral equivalent of 20-30 million people murdered and an entire country living in fear of saying the wrong thing to the wrong person is idiocy.

The Bible I was raised up on taught me that "sin is sin" none worse than the other. Thus my point of view.

So in other words we are just like the former USSR, or for that matter Nazi Germany. How could you stand living in a place like that? Oh wait a minute, you don't.

And that makes sense to you? Never mind. Silly question. Of course it makes sense to you.

What's interesting is this. Suppose you live in a state with the death penalty and you murder ONE person in cold blood, Murder One.

Now let's say you commit a premeditated atrocity like the one in Norway, how many times will you be executed in a death penalty case? Exactly the same number of times as if you killed one or 20 million.

When it's done at the hands of Government one unjustified death diminishes everyone's Liberty because it gets easier each time.

The fact that a person is only put to death once is a limitation of the human body, not of the law that executed the person. A kid who steals a $1 out of the till at work is not the same as Madoff who stole millions. They are not seen as equal in the eyes of the law nor I suspect most people. Logic dictates they are not the same. Yes they are both criminals but the are not equal criminals.

One death is bad, 30+ million is worse by a magnitude that is exponentially greater. To equate the two is indeed idiocy.

Actually he is a thief pure and simple.

The underlying moral principle that stealing is wrong remains constant. What's different is the degree of the crime. The kid is a thief as surely as Madoff is. Now should they receive the same penalty? Of course not! We do have penalties based upon dollar amounts as well as civil courts to properly address the degree of damage done to society.

Same goes for killing someone, we have degrees of guilt designed to punish at an appropriate level. When you talk about the atrocities perpetrated by the likes of Pol Pot, Stalin, Hitler and the like the sad truth is there is no appropriate degree of guilt. maybe this is why people believe in Heaven & Hell?

I mean you have to want to believe that somehow, some way a guy like Hitler is going to get punished in the afterlife and even then Hell seems to good for them.
