What Else Is United Selling? Raising Cash

Chip,
UAL will ABSOLUTELY with 100% assurity, meet the Oct DIP requirement.
The IRS "refund" is irrelevent to the DIP covenent (The "T" in EBIDTAR stands for TAXES)
I don't know how UAL counted the TSA money. some airlines counted it in the operating numbers, some counted it as a special, non-operating item. i think UAL reported it as a "special item" on it's public books, but I'm not aware of the position they took WRT the DIP books.
UAL will have an operating PROFIT for the 3rd Q (likely in excess of 150 million), despite not yet achieve ALL of the cost reductions it will achieve in BK (as opposed to other airline actually losing money in Q3 despite having achieved all BK cuts...and now intimating they need additional cuts...)
Whether or not someone meets or violates DIP requirements, is not, IMHO, "splitting hairs"

Chip,

It's not the Titanic sinking, it's more like the Phoenix rising. Out of the ashes of the old bloated carrier, a new competitive force is taking shape. Watch and prepare to be amazed.

Bus,

It will be interesting to see UAL's results. Loads have been excellent, and continue to remain strong, especially in the Pacific. John Tague's use of targeted fare sales seem to have stimulated demand during what is typically the slow travel season.

Chip, Chip, Chip...

What am I ever going to do with you?!

Of recent, your tone, presentation and writing style was much more pleasurable to read even if I did not agree with you. Then you seem not to be able to restrain yourself by tossing in an old style post containing insulting negativity. "Sinking Titanic", huh?

Need I remind you that your company (U) and our company (UA) are business partners!!! U is joining the Star Alliance sometime in January I believe. It is not a good idea for a pilot/employee of a business partner to be bad mouthing and/or denegrating the other partner. You should be promoting the partnership instead of tearing it down. You should be cheering the great success the partnership will become and the monies both our airlines and the Star expect to make from the union. We are no where near a sinking Titanic, we are a shining Star rising in the face of adversity and flying in the friendly skies!!

I attended a number of US Airways bankruptcy hearings and discussed the company’s Chapter 11 hurdles (a number of times) with Dave Siegel via email or personally in Washington at the airport

First time I've ever felt sorry for Dave.

Remember folks, its ALL about "Contribute"

NPD is NOT pretty.

Dilligas, feel sorry for all of us at USAirways, not just Dave. Isn't there a medical term for a person who continually feels compelled to let everyone know they think they know it all and continue to be compelled to these moronic impulses eventhough they've been wrong about pretty much everything? I am amazed at the amount of time time you know who puts into posting this diatribe all over the internet. It's really creepy if you ask me.

FlyingHippie, all of U's employees have my sympathies. I can see why so many people hate pilots.
Just as I won't judge the MANY, MANY high quaility U employees by a few bad apples, I hope that others don't judge all pilots by a few poor examples.

Who hates pilots?!? Noooooo, we love pilots! We just don't love the ones who like to "contribute" sooooo much B)

Does anyone want to remind "you know who", that after they lost everything...pay, benefits, retirement etc, down sized, outsourced, shed leases, aircraft, slots, granted more RJ's etc, etc emerged FROM BK supposedly ready to compete....they just lost a bunch of money. Everyone knows I have no love loss for United but WHO is really going down here? Titanic....hmmm

Here is something to ponder.....

Ronin had a good point. After all of their cost cutting, U is still bleeding cash. Why will UAL be any different? If U can't make money after reaming it's employees, how can UAL? Any thoughts?

FWIW, the U business plan assumed a loss for each quarter in 2003 and break even in 2004.

U doesn't want to make money. UAL will want to, and will be successful.

The reaming of the employees is the primary business plan at U. Get rid of as many emloyees as possible, downsize the company, make it as undesirable an employer as possible... then dump it over to someone else as a feeder. Tens of thousands of high seniority, long time loyal employees reamed, a small "management" team reaps huge profits.

Why does anyone think the good Dr. B bought Rono Dutta to the U "B-O-D"?

UAL is getting other ducks in a row and not focusing slowly on "Reaming 101". There will be more sacrifices, but you will have a "kinder, gentler" reaming, as YOU will be the survivors. U is the sacrificial lamb.

I expect a much healthier and robust UAL when it emerges. Look for RSA to be involved in UAL's future also.

Well... ummmm....

Speaking in general terms, and not making any amateur armchair diagnosis, or referring to a specific person 🙄 , I offer you the following link for your review:

Link Deleted. Moderator's note- Please keep on topic with aviation related issues.

As for creepiness, oh yes indeed I agree with you.

Not disputing the validity of U's business plan. My point is that if U's plan as stated was acceptable, then it would seem to follow that an airline that actually turns an operating profit while in BK, BEFORE realizing all it's cost cuts, would seem to be well ahead of the "ATSB" game.
