What's new

What is AA going to do?

AA will buy another airline to retain the title of worlds largest airline. They are not concerned about the issues that come with mergers and buyouts. After all the golden parachutes kick in after a buyout is done. Seniority issues and contract issues are not a problem, the US government is on the companies side not the poor working stiff. It has been proven before and it will happen again. There must be a reason why AA wants a short term contract with the TWU. That is not past practice. Something is going to happen, just watch and see. And when it does, can you spell B.O.H.I.C.A. all over again?

Gotta' disagree.....1AA with AA buying another carrier(under the SOON to be Democratic control in DC).

However, if (hypothetically) Alaska air heavily favored getting taken over by(say) AA, or any other winner in a bidding war,........THEN I don't think the (new) FEDS would stop it.

Also,

twaokc,

AA didn't commit hari-kari when UA became bigger than them back in the late 80's/early 90's.

For world domination,(by a US Carrier) all AA needs is "3" magic pieces.

Anti-trust agreements with;
1. AA/BA(which they're working on)
2. AA/JAL
3. AA/Qantas

AA is like that successful TV reality show................"SURVIVOR"

Does anyone really believe that DL's not going to find an excuse to start trimming away at the fringes of the old NWA network, park a few aircraft types, close a regional hub or two?

It's just a matter of time before they find their own way back to the #2 spot.

They were # 3 before..

They're just gonna wait for the AA/BA/IB thing to happen.

Let's not confuse an anti-trust agreement with a merger of airlines. If they were one and the same, this new agreement which adds CO, to the UA, LF, etc. agreement would be by far the world's largest airline.

AA will buy another airline to retain the title of worlds largest airline.

AA is not the world's largest airline. AF-KLM is. AA is the largest U.S. airline. (Or was until yesterday. )

AA/BA/IB team will be far more formidable and smarter outfit than this DL/NW trainwreck-in-the-making.

DL/NW was conceived when credit was good and the managers/hedgefunds wanted to cash out.

AA/BA/IB (hey, timing is EVERYTHING!) will be done for competitive market reasons. Smart. Very smart.

Good luck!

Au contrair, mon ami.

The DL/NW "trainwreck" as you rightfully call it (I like that term) was conceived at the very beginning of the airlines' problems, about three years ago and also at a time when bankruptcy laws were about to get unfriendlier to corporations. If you'll remember, DL and NW filed for Chapter 11 protection within hours of each other and just barely ahead of the Halloween deadline. On 1 November 2005, the laws changed.

The reason for the filing by both was rather simple to figure but other problems in the economy didn't allow them to exploit the situation as they'd originally planned, that is, get rid of the bills, combine, and clean up with bonuses for all but the workers, as usual.

It would appear now that McFarlane and boys are going to take an unplanned pay cut when AMFA is chucked from NW. I'll be very surprised if DL mechs want any part of an organization that courts scabs when the money runs low, but I've been wrong many times before.

As to why the AA/BA/IB poligamist marriage (of sorts), we'll just have to see what they're up to. Yes, it will certainly be a good situation for all three companies but I can't help but think there's something ulterior here we aren't seeing. That's what scares me.

Delta/NWA can have the title "largest airline". One's things for sure, they have their work cut out for them.

AMR management can be sneaky and devious and sly and cunning and all that - but I'm skeptical that AA has anything more up its sleeves than a simple price-fixing, market allocation agreement that would be illegal except for the ATI.

After all, NW and KLM have had this for 15 years, and now DL has it now that it bought NW. All AA wants to do is get the same rules as NW and KLM have had for 15 years. UA and LH now have this as well.

Can anyone at NW provide any insight into the potential "ulterior" motives or anything that ought to "scare" the employees? I can't recall any employee complaints from any of the other airines that already have ATI.

So why is it so scary for AA employees?

So why is it so scary for AA employees?

It's scary in the sense that we've learned over the years AA's management and its dues collection agency some damned fool deemed a union seldom have interests in mind other than their own personal benefit. All the proles do is supply the money to the "union" and get screwed with no grease from both sides.

I disagree. I don't see AA going on a buying spree. Maybe cherry picking some assets out of liquidation, but not an outright purchase.

Pride aside, I don't care if we're not the biggest anymore. I'd like us to be the most profitable.

I'd just like to see us the best paid.

Who cares if they work for the biggest or most profitable company when they have one of the smallest paychecks, the least amount of paid time off, no paid holidays etc, etc?
