Local management anounced in BOS they will be cutting 12 customer service agent lines from the June schedule bid. They will also be drastically reducing all overtime. This was presented as a cost cutting move by the company. I guess the folks in Tempe don't know what it's like to fly in the northeast in spring and early summer. Don't get many of those thunderstorms out in the desert.

What a creative solution by our bonus laiden exec's.

We're already working with minumum staffing as it is, so to the flight crews wondering why your burning a couple of hundred dollars of fuel waiting for a jetway driver, it's because Dougie and Scottie thought they'd save a few bucks by laying off a 9 dollar an hour employee.

For our loyal customers, sorry, longer lines, less service.

Wondering if any other staions have heard of any cutbacks, or is it they just don't like BOS. I think we're the only focus city with no POC team.

Doug must be a Yankee fan.

Actually we do have quite the thunderstorm season out here only it is better known as monsoon season. Things can get very ugly, very fast and hundreds of flights end up diverted. It can be a huge mess.

I'm guessing that with cutting main cabin snacks and now word that they are cutting staffing for you guys in BOS that these should be early indications that as long as oil rises we can expect to see many "great" decisions made by our illustrious management team all in the name of cost savings. They will use the high cost of fuel as an excuse for many feasible cuts but rest assured they will also use this as a reason to do some really stupid, employee non-friendly things as well.

Fasten your seatbelts folks this is going to be one looooong summer.

Oh, and Dougie is totally a Yankee fan, you can just tell. 😉

Go Red Sox!

WE were told to watch ALL UNECESSARY OT as well.

Yankees suck!!!

If this is true. This is an even dumber way to offset the high cost of full, than stop giving away pretzels.
This will make it harder for customers to purchase tickets and spend more with US. Also frustrate those who are left to swear they will never fly US again

Pretzels? If oil continues to rise we won't have to worry about pretzels - or our jobs anymore for that matter. Unless you're one of the lucky few who gets to work for the new Amtrack Airlines that'll be all that remains of the industry.

When is OT unnecessary is my question? Sh$t, I've been working short forever....haven't heard of the cutbacks down here in FL yet but I'm sure they're coming.

Hey now lay my Yankees....I love my boys....

BUT not as much as my G-MEN!!!!

Yet PK and the idiots in Inflight management recalled everyone on the involuntary furlough list and some on the extended leave list. This place just amazes me.

Anybody want to wager that by January 2, 2009 the price of oil is under $100 per barrel and declining or at least flat?

I have a few bags of mini pretzels and a Biscoff or two to put at risk.

I'll take that bet and raise you to $80 per barrel by January 20th. Some greedy speculators are about to take it in the shorts, again. Just like tech., just like the dot coms, just like housing.

The real price of oil adjusted for specutlation should be around $80 right now. It will go to $200 based on demand, but not yet. We still have a couple of years until Chinese demand equals total production, I think 2012. We are only getting a taste of the future and a reprieve of sorts, to get our houses in order.

I say it will be flat, at $150 a barrel. I say that with optimism, because it will help the us realize that artificially supporting a "buggy whip" industry like petroleum is a losing proposition in the long run and will make alternative forms financially viable, sooner.

There is something wrong with our "incentives" when one can buy a Hummer and get up to $100,000 in tax breaks and yet, only $4000 maximum for a Prius. I am certain the same calculus applies to the airline industry. Airbus just announced that they would like to see 30% of jet fuel composed of some sort of bio-fuel by 2030. Now, where is Boeing? Oh yeah, in bed with oil.

Folks,

If you want to continue discussing the price of oil in broad strokes, move it to the Water Cooler. This topic is about US Airways response to the cost of oil in the form of layoffs and other tangible moves, and should be kept in that context.

Thank you.

Just because BOS will be cutting 12 lines from the schedule bid, doesn't mean there will be layoffs! Has the company officially STATED this will be the case for BOS? Many stations are offering voluntary VTOs and are adding open time lines on the bid to offset the reduced schedules, but I DID NOT hear there will be any furloughs. I hope you're not getting yourself upset unneccesarily by some false rumor.
