If you were going to training, and had the choice to be based at either IGA, EWR or CLE where would you go and why?

First you have to learn the city codes. CO doesn't have a base in IGA.

😳 I ment IAH! So between Newark, Houston, And Cleveland which would you want to based out of right after training? Any advice really would help out!

Really? I was thinking Newark, I know its not the nicest place on earth but right now reserve is only around 2 years while Houston and Cleveland are around 8-9. I was thinking it would be best to get off reserve A.S.A.P!

However, as a newhire reserve, you need to also look at cost of living in each city. Houston is by far the cheapest of the 3 to live in. And, there is no state income tax in Texas.
You can rent a very nice 2-bedroom apt--I'm talking assigned or even covered parking, paid utilities, and a swimming pool--within 10 miles of the airport for less than $1000/mo--in some cases as low as $700/mo. Go to National Apartment Rental website and compare prices in the 3 cities. For Houston, select Area 2--North and Northeast, then select Humble/Kingwood. Humble abuts the airport property. Kingwood is about 5 miles up the freeway in a VERY nice planned community.
Also, remember that you may not get your 1st or 2nd choice; so be prepared to live in any of the 3. If I remember correctly from friends who are CO f/as, CO does base assignments for new hires the same way that American does it. Your class seniority is based on your birthdate. The oldest person in the class is #1, next oldest is #2, etc. If you are one of the younger members of the class, you may get "what's left."
But, don't be discouraged. At AA, a lot of people consider LGA (New York) to be the worst new hire assignment because of the cost of living. However, my new hire class had a lot of people who were from the New York area and wanted LGA; so, a lot of others in my class who may have been forced to go there got another choice. In fact, one of the youngest people in my class got DFW which is considered the best of all AA bases for new hires because it has the lowest cost of living.

Hmm something to think about!! And yes they do seniority based on age, and I am 21, the youngest there will be... So Houston may be cheaper to live in but I would have to carry my car insurance. Right now sense I am a student I am not paying it, and if I move to Newark I wouldn't have to have a car. All things to think about!!
2 year rsv in ewr? wow that is awesome compared at usairways. phl rsv goes to 96 seniority . i have 10 years and i am on rsv!!! i am pretty sure i will hold a block for the summer with all the intl flts coming online but i should be able to hold a block year round not just in the summer.
I would imagine that the cost of your car insurance would be much less, living in Texas, than would be the cost of living plus the state income tax in NJ. After a couple of years building up some seniority and an emergency fund, transfer to another base, where you most desire to live.
Regardless, good luck.
No doubt IAH would have lower living costs than EWR. Of course the trade off is that if you are in EWR you are right across the river from the greatest city in the world, while if you are in IAH you're, um, not.

NYC across the river is the same as Philly across the river, New Jersey is a dump.
I could think of plenty of places better than Philly. It's just as much a dump as Newark. Who lives in Newark or Philly anyway? The outskirts of each is much better and cheaper than the cities.

I was implying Camden. The Aquarium/Tweeter Center only place to go. Get lost there, start saying your prayers. I like NJ up around Belvidere,near the Delaware Water Gap.That's pretty up there.
