F/A Base closings

Aren't all UAL flight attendants represented on one seniority list? if so, how can you get super seniority simply because you are based in Paris?

They don't get "superseniority." Fly is just trying to be dramatic for hysterical effect.

I believe what she is referring to is the fact that the CDG F/As will probably be given the option of transferring to FRA and LHR, while there may be more senior F/As at the US bases that want to go to those bases.

What she fails to mention is that whenever a base is closed or surplussed, the displaced F/As can go to other bases ahead of senior people who may have transfer requests on file.

LHR and FRA are being made available to CDG F/As because a lot of them are French / E.U. citizens who, because of U.S. immigration law, will not be allowed to be based in the U.S. So UA HAS to make spots in other non-U.S. bases for them.

Fly is just crying "superseniority!" to get people riled up, when in reality the CDG F/As will have no more "superseniority" than the displaced EWR and PHL F/As whom UA will make room for at other bases.

Actually I think she is referring to the ability of the French speakers to get CDG and fly nothing but 1 hop over the pond while a similarly seniority non-french speaker is doing 5 ORD-DSM turns a day. I've been wrong before though....;o)

I dunno Busdrvr, DSM is a pretty glamorous city....Who wouldn't want to work that route?

It looks like 'superseniority' to me. Unless the EWR and PHL f/a's get to go to FRA and LHR too. But if only the CDG f/a's get that advantage then that is exactly what is happening.

EWR and PHL will get options like DC, ORD, and SFO, which most of the more senior CDG F/As will not have. So I guess EWR and PHL are getting "superseniority" also.

If you call that superseniority, I guess that every time a base is closed or downsized, those F/As also get superseniority, if that makes you feel better.

Bottom line: the CDG situation is being handled like every other base closure or surplus, with the one added complication that it will have to comply with U.S. immigration laws. If you don't like the U.S. immigration laws, write your Congressperson and encourage him/her to change the laws so that more foreigners have the right to work in the U.S., if you really see that as the best solution.

ORD, SFO and DCA have all been open for ANY f/a to transfer to this year. LHR and FRA haven't been open for years. So when someone junior gets into the FRA or LHR bases when people with many years seniority can't, that is Superseniority.

Bear, are you Proc?

So what do you suggest they do with the CDG F/As who can't work in the US?

I am guessing you are going to say fire 'em all, instead of finding room for them elsewhere, the way UA ALWAYS has treated F/As who are surplussed or whose domiciles have closed. If you are worred about all F/As being treated fairly, how is that fair?

Bear, are you Proc?
Sorry, is that in English?

"Since the closure announcement, United Airlines has failed to not only provide access to French benefits afforded other workers, this management has not even responded to our basic questions about the closure and forced transfer to work in other countries," said AFA Local President Sharon Benjamin-Caldwell. "Flight Attendants are expected to make life-changing decisions in a vacuum. United Airlines has not even given us the most basic information about employment and transfer terms. Paris Flight Attendants are furious about this treatment from the company to which they have offered dedicated service for well over a decade.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. See you state side

Just a little follow-up on Borescope's comment.

Paris Flight Attendants at United Direct Leadership to Prepare for a Strike

Members of the Paris Local Council for the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO unanimously adopted a resolution today during a local meeting to direct their leaders to prepare for a strike. Under French law workers have a constitutional right to strike. United Airlines recently announced closure of the Paris domicile effective May 1, 2006. They are attempting to close the domicile in a way that purposely denies workers access to French social benefits such as unemployment, which is provided by the government.

Paris Flight Attendants are furious about this treatment from the company to which they have offered dedicated service for well over a decade." "Our Paris based Members have every right to expect immediate action to address their concerns as a result of management's decision to close the Paris domicile," stated Greg Davidowitch, president of AFA at United Airlines. "While management drags its heels, Flight Attendants must make decisions that include uprooting children from their schools and moving families to another country. Making prudent business decisions must include consideration of the effect on employees."

United Should've close this base way back at BK.. When SCL was closed this based should've been also. This will bring back jobs to the usa. Flying should get better for all of us at ORDSW or DCASW. We lost B brusells and some zruich flying to CDG and now we stand to gain it back. We commute and our lives we uprooted so it's CDG turn and probably most will bail out and leave ual. We are hiring tons of f/a now in usa so this will give jobs back to the usa

You may be gaining positions to BRU, ZRH and CDG, but you will lose a comparable number of positions to FRA and LHR as those bases will be increased in size and thus need to fly more positions. I doubt more than a third of the CDG flight attendants will attrit as a result of their base closing - so any increase in overall positions that the US bases see will be marginal at best.

We will also gain position to LHR AND FRA.. United plans to close all intl bases one at a time in the next few years. For those of you who are in denial.. watch it. Many thought EWR OR PHL OR CDG MIA would happen. Many thought we would never go into BK.... I am flight attendant with UAL and this is ual's taken path and direction in the next few years. The new hires are coming on and all base closures will be coming back to ORDSW OR DCASW soon. Most who leave CDG will quit. I have already been flying with our CDG F/A and these f/a have already applied with Air France and BA to leave UAL. If we loose any positions it will be short. Which is good news. We need to give usa jobs back to our country. Many younger people want to see the glamour in this career now. Also United is also about to add many new INTL FLights from Dulles to Spain/Latin American. We are getting
all the gates from IP at Dulles and United is positioning
new aircraft as we speak. Widebodies soon to follow. We are also about to take add more TED flying to many Carribean destination. We are are flying many test flights now to these certain routes. The flights are doing very well profit and seat miles. UAL, will add many more next winter once we receive more A320.

DCASW will be very big and Tilton stated this in the Washington Post two weeks ago. UAL, plans to be the biggest Latin America,Carribean,Europe and South Africa
in the next year. Please just sit back and watch as United
redeploys our aircrafts. United, will pull this off as long as we don't see another Sept 11.

minus the fuel.

And what cristal ball do you have? The one that I last viewed said something much different. Base closures are something that affect many, even your senority. Becareful for that which you wish, especially the karma on ill wishes towards those who COULD be affected. What you wish for is exactly what many wished UAL would do during BK. And that, my dear, could have sent you also into a soup line. Lucky for you, that did not happen.
