What's new

Who said the KLAN was dead...it's in PA.

I meant we cannot wait for Obama to be elected to realize the danger he represents to the United States, our allies, and the world at large. We can't be sitting around looking for the smoking gun that proves what we all know...that Obama is dangerous. That smoking gun may be a mushroom cloud.

You need to invest in a good foil hat. The one you have now obviously is not working.

The United States could, indeed, be the first and only nation in the first world to elect a person of African descent to their highest office.

An Obama election will do either of two things.... raise the credibility of Africans in western politics to the point where we can move past race relations and get things done for the first time in a hundred years or it will erode our credibility on a world scale to such a point as to plunge us into the stone age, something akin to sub-Saharan Africa.

It's a risky gamble.

Bobbie...

Just to enlighten you a bit. There has, no doubt, ALREADY been an African American as President (we just weren't aware of his direct gene pool...kinda like J.Edgar Hoover).

If I understand you correctly, the mere fact that we have a White or Black President could have baring on our stature in the world? If that is the case...that would only apply to small ignorant fools who wouldn't know enough about the world to make a difference anyway.

In case you didn't know...Rome, the greatest Empire known to man, was once ruled by an African-Roman Emperor, quite successfully I might add.

WHITE does not make you an accomplished, respected leader. Brains and skill does...the last I checked, neither had anything to do with color

And just so you know...AFRICA is ALL of Africa...including Egypt (contrary to Western historians attempting to somehow make it quasi European. So, therefore, AFRICANS were living in advanced (ancient Egypt/Nubia) societies long before Europeans emerged from the Caves. It's a learning curve...

I know I will regret asking this but how will electing a black head of state increase/decrease our credibility?

Israel had a female head of state as does Germany (there is a whole slew of countries who have had a female head of state). The world did not stop spinning for a moment. He is a man who happens to be black, WGAS? How will it erode our standing? After W I fail to see how it could get much lower.

Does it have anything to do with the fact that you claim to be a woman and that is OK but a black may not be capable of running a nation? Will we be having this same conversation in 2012 when Ms. Clinton makes another run for the White House?

Hmmm...I'll go with option 1. There's been black mayors and black governors, and the cities and states they were elected in seem to be in about the same shape as that of the white run cities and states.

You should have watched the Frontline episode last night that was biographies of both candidates. Interesting comments from his co-editors at the Harvard Law Review...from his CONSERVATIVE co-editors. I don't think any of them would feel that the US would become Biafra if Obama is elected. But thank you for finally admitting that your biggest concern is his race.

My main concern is that we've never had a black leader of a western power, ever. On a world-respect scale, the current black leaders are relegated to third-world nation status and are frequently tied to corruption, scandal, murder, etc. Barack Obama shows no signs of these traits, obviously, but the world will surely look at him with a great deal of skepticism and he's unlikely to get any benefit of doubt. He's got to prove himself as an individual. I just don't think the Presidency of the United States is the appropriate venue for anyone to be proving themselves. A President should be already proven.

Right now, in Kenya, they're rejoicing in the streets and planning celebrations for Obama's victory. Keep in mind, they view Obama as a citizen of Kenya taking control of the United States. No doubt, they're hoping for a huge financial windfall from the election.

The whole thing makes me very uncomfortable. I truly believe Barack Obama to be a decent, upstanding man. I just don't think he's decent or upstanding enough to shake the stereotyping that he will be subjected to.

Now is not the time for people to be using their votes to make a statement. Our lives are at stake and that of our children.

3 paragraphs to say that it's because of his race. Try typing this Bobbie...you won't have to worry about carpal tunnel syndrome:

I am not voting for Obama because he is black.

She has already done that.

You mean your racist little world. The one where you teach your children to be afraid of that "colored (is that what you call him in front of your kids?) person who does not look like us". 😛h34r:

I suspect the majority of the people who are fearful are white racists. The rest of the world seems to be far less concerned with race. gender and sex than the US. In my travels abroad, I encounter far more 'mixed' marriages/couples than here in the good old 'free' USA. Women were afforded the right to vote and own property yet the world US survived. Blacks were allowed allowed into the military and severed with valor (Tuskegee Airmen) when the service was segregated and continued to serve with valor after desegregation. Blacks were also afforded the right to vote and own property yet the Union survived. Gays have been alowed into the military as well and yet the Union survived that punishing blow as well. Germany has a female head of state and their union has not fallen.

Should Obama make it into the White House, nothing will change. I am relatively certain the sun will still rise in the east and set in the west. The earth in all likely hood will continue to rotate on it's axis. Yes, there will be a few changes. Racists such as your self will be forced to accept that try as you might, minorities are moving up the ladder. Hell, they might even serve fried chicken and water mellon every now and then. I am sure the KKK and other such noble organizations will see a small blip in membership but the world will move on with out you and your kind.

The only reason some people in Kenya are happy is that Obamas ancestry is from Kenya. One of their children has achieved something no other black has done.

What does Obama have to prove? That he can screw up the nation just as well as a sliver spoon white boy from Main? My god, can you just immagine what would happen if her were Catholic? OH, never mind ... been there and done that too and yet, the Union ........

When you look at the rest of the world I would say the opposite is true. While there may be issues with race/ethnicity in this country at least we are not killing each other over it like in so many other parts of the world. Rwanda and the Balkans are a good example. People in places like that killed one another by the hundreds of thousands based on one's ethnicity. Look at the history of Europe; it was not until recently that they gave up on that age old sport. Even then it pops up in places like the previously mentioned former Yugoslavia.

America is one big mixed marriage when you think about it. There are people married to one another that otherwise would not be either due to geography or hatred.

Do you have any proff they view his election as Kenya taking over the US or him being a citizen of Kenya? Not that it really matters one way or another if they do or not. Me personally, I could care less if they think that.

If you look at the developed world, such as Canada, large parts of Europe, Australia, New Zealand etc. then the U.S. is behind in tolerance of one's gender, sexual orientation etc. Yes there are parts of the world that are harsher than the U.S. - the middle east theocracies come to mind... then again the U.S. certainly comes across as one as well.

I do not think comparing the US with Rwanda is a very fair comparison. I was comaring the US with Western Europe and other "civilized" countries.

Like I said, gays are in the military and the world has not stopped spinning.
