President Barack Obama will use his speech to the Arab world today to call for billions of dollars in financial assistance to Egypt and Tunisia as part of a comprehensive approach to the “Arab Spring” movement that he hopes will boost democratic reforms and America’s reputation in the region.

The aid package, which would unfold over two to three years, would include an estimated $1 billion in debt cancellation, $1 billion in loan guarantees and several billion more in financing from multilateral institutions such as the World Bank, according to three senior administration officials who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity under ground rules set by the White House.

Despite Mr Leno's quick witted swipe at Obama he actually raises an interesting point.

The Palestinians/Arabic folks surrounding Israel have attacked Israel quite a few times, each time with disastrous result militarily. As a result of their military ineptness they lost large portions of land to Israel. If memory serves Israel has in the interest of Peace given back quite a bit of it.

Now if our own Government had been as benevolent to the Indians as Israel has been to their neighbors I think it safe to say the Indians would be in a far better situation than they currently are. Funny thing is here in the US we're still violating treaties with the indians to this very day. Thus impoverished tribes are forced to sue to gain their treaty rights and we're lecturing Israel???

Israel does all the real world testing on the weapons systems we give them, figure out how to make them work and fix them for us. Until Syria & Iraq develop a delivery system to land a nuke on our soil what real concern is it to us? How many would we have to fire back to turn the entire country into an even bigger steaming turd than it already is.

We depend on fossil fuel because no one makes energy independence a priority. If we had started towards Energy Independence during the first OPEC embargo we'd be free of fossil fuel entanglements

YES, Israel does get r done and I've no problem with the US Government selling them all the arms they can afford to purchase. It's time for the US to be a Cash and Carry supplier of the tools of the war trade. Need an F-16? Cool the price is 100 million. Buy ten and get the 11th one free! Easy Peasy.

Conversely we'll buy there medical stuff same terms.
