What's new

Will American apply for additional China frequencies to begin 2007?

Bigger question...
Would we have the a/c to expand China service? Or, which routes currently served by 777s would have to be "downgraded" to 767s (personally, I like that plane) in order to free up a/c for any additional China service?

Or, do we have some new a/c being delivered over the next 12 months? I've given up trying to keep track of firm, maybe, delayed, and cancelled a/c orders. I'm a flight attendant. I'm paid to be cute, not smart.

(Which just goes to show what a hard worker I am. It's difficult to be cute when I will be 61 this month.   )

AA has two new 777s arriving soon for next month's PVG launch; no new 777s scheduled after that until at least 2013, but I'm confident that timetable could be accelerated if AA called Boeing.

Isn't AA still doing some CRAF missions with 777s? On top of that, AA has leased one surplus 777 to Boeing (reportedly for some testing) for up to 12 months, beginning in December, 2005 (disclosed in the 10-K last week).

And AA could always downguage a 777 route to a 763, like RDU-LGW or DFW-FRA. And awful as it sounds, take another one off a South American route. Or simply call Boeing and tell them to get a couple more ready. El Al ordered two 777-200ERs in December, 2005 and they're scheduled for delivery sometime in 2007. So getting more in a hurry isn't completely impossible.

NO! AA can't add any more Asian routes. If they do, NHBB's plan for AA to acquire NWA in order to rip out its Asian routes and spit out the rest will go to pot.

I don't think AA wants to apply for other routes in Asia. That means more flight attendant recalls. In other words they would have to bring back the former TWA flight attendants. We all know AA does not want them back.

Oh my, what a brilliant comment

It's all about you isn't it?

If the frequencies were awarded, AA would find the 777's to fly additional China frequencies. As already noted, it would be pretty easy to take a pair off of South America or Europe.

Question.

With AA to start PVG very shortly, and virtually "everybody, and their brother" flying into PEK, (with the exception of HKG) what is considered the 3rd most important city on the Chinese Mainland.
(something for AA to think about, should they get an 2007 award.)

WT,
One thing for sure, DL could'nt find ASIA with a friggin' ROAD MAP !!

Awarding DL with a China route, is like feeding "strawberry's to the Pigs"

To begin with, DL does'nt have the A/c to make the trip from "HOT-Lanta" to(I suppose) PEK.
(Perhaps they "could" fly a 767 from ATL-CVG-SLC-PDX-NRT to PEK)(Stopping for "gas" every other leg) !!

Flying to China, is "serious business", better suited for airlines like UA/AA/NW/CO.."BEFORE" DL

DL needs to stick to their "International strenght" on "Award winning" destinations like JFK to Belgrade(4 times a week)

To miss an opportunity to serve more of China is short sighted and pig headed. AA needs to fly to more of Asia(including more of India, say Mumbai from ORD or JFK). Moving 777 from Sao Paulo or Buenos Aires is only going to upset a very profitable set of customers, AA needs more 777 and should have a few pair for delivery every year, atleast for the next 3 or 4 years. UA, NW and CAL fly to Peking, but they also fly to London, Paris, Tokyo and Frakfurt; so what Peking is developing into a huge market. Hong Kong is the one Asian market AA should have flown to years ago, and should be a priority, Cathay does a great job there for ONEWORLD, it doesn't fly from Chicago though. AA needs some 777-200LR/300ER in the near future. Dallas to Sydney fits that bill.

Dallas to Sydney fits that bill.

Don't think that will happen though it would be nice. The Australian government has just refused Singapore permission to do LAX-SYD (don't want to compete with ANZ and Qantas, don't you know).

Since Qantas is a OneWorld member and we have a codeshare from Dallas to Sydney via LAX, I don't think Qantas would be wild about us flying it non-stop.

AA has BOM in the books to start service from JFK. I have heard two options for this route:

1. JFK-BOM non-stop on the 777 **The only 777's AA can pull are from GRU or EZE. I doubt AA will pull from LHR**

2. JFK-BRU-BOM on the 767-300

Who knows if/when AA will start it. We need to service more Asia, especially HKG!

AA could probably pull the 777s of RDU-LGW and DFW-FRA, I believe this would free up two 777s. Or they could put a 767 on JFK-GRU and free up two more 777s.

Pity the routes where 767 replace 777, Sao Paulo & Buenos Aires are as important as any new 777 service. Shifting planes around stiffs one set of established customers for a new set. 777 flights to South America need those airplanes and shouldn't be short changed. Those bankers from BA and EZE are just as important in filling up First and Biz Class as the Mumbai business establishment. AA needs more 777, period. 6 or 10 in the next 3 years would do.

Qantas shouldn't have a cow about DFW-Sydney, a few years ago when they took delivery of 747-400ER, there was mention of such a flight via Auckland. For some reason it never happened. AA could fill 200 seats daily and Qantas I think would support the idea. The Singapore airlines comparisons are about flying SYD-LAX, the main Us- Auusie roue. IF AA doesn't fly from California to Aussie, Qantas should remain quite happy to have the lion's share.
