Will Joe Pa resign?

That will be the conspiracy of the ages if everyone that testified before that grand jury lied.

Have you read the grand jury report? If not, do so and come back.

Go one better....how about common knowledge across town?

.....Limbaugh was in town for the Steeler game and after talking to some people familiar with the issue, seems just about everybody in Happy Valley knew about it. Like it was a ha ha issue. Local radio was saying the ice cream shop up PSU has a Jerry Sandusky ice cream dish.....a cone with two scoops at one end and lots of nuts.....you can guess how it was laid out....at the famed PSU creamery.....

The famous Sandusky Blitz:

Seems knowledge of the issue was more than PSU staff, maybe the whole town. And Paterno's guilty?

Letter from Philly paper from anonymous OSU fan:

“Dear Penn State Fan/Alumni,

You don’t know me. Sure, we may have seen each other once or twice at a road game or a tailgate, but aside from a passing glance, and an occasional hello, we are strangers. Heck, we’re actually more like enemies. After all, I’m a fan of The Ohio State University – tOSU, or O$U as you might call it. Since you guys joined the Big Ten Conference in the early-90s we’ve built a pretty spirited rivalry, with more than its fair share of heroics, heartbreaks, and triumphs. To be sure, we’ve both crossed the line on occasion. Urine balloon barbs and incontinence jabs have clouded the fact that we’re actually not that different, you and I. We’re both proud disciples of two of the most storied programs in all of college football, and although you’d be hard pressed to get a Buckeye fan to say it to your face, we respect the hell out of you and your traditions.

I’m writing because I know how you feel right now. The actions of your beloved president, coach, and athletic director have shaken your program to the core and have threatened your own faith in humanity. You’re shocked that someone you idolized could have done something so stupid, so selfish, so infuriatingly contradictory to the values they spent decades promoting. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not comparing what happened in Columbus to what’s alleged to have happened in State College. Only Bob Ryan is stupid enough to draw that parallel. What I am saying is that I know what it feels like to have a personal hero disgraced. To watch someone you admire, who did more good in a week than most of us do in our entire lifetimes get publicly shamed, and forced out under a cover of darkness. To see a legacy irrevocably stained and treasured accomplishments tarnished. To have one person’s mistakes drag your university’s good name through the mud. To be labeled an accomplice to the crime by virtue of your fan allegiances.

As I was driving to work this morning, I heard one of your own call in to The Herd and explain that he didn’t know how he was going to unapologetically put on the Blue and White and sing “Fight On, State” this Saturday. He’s not the only one to express that sentiment. Perhaps you’re feeling a little this way.

This is what I want to say to you. You are not Joe Paterno. You are not Tim Curley. You are not Gary Schultz. You are not Graham Spanier, and you are sure as hell not Jerry Sandusky. Their alleged sins are not your own. They may be the most recognizable faces of your beloved program, but they are not Penn State. They are not a 156 year old center of higher learning. They are not a century of football tradition. Their flaws cannot eclipse the innumerable scientific, artistic, and humanitarian contributions your university, and its 44,000 students and 570,000 living alumni have made and will continue to make to the world at large.

The spirit of a program, of a university, and of a state is so much bigger than any one person.

So do yourself a favor, and stop thinking about Joe Paterno. No amount of discussion can change what happened, and his bed is made for better or worse. Recognize that only time can tell how he will be remembered. (For what it’s worth, I hope beyond hope that the facts turn out favorably.) Say a prayer for the children, and on Saturday, put on your Silas Redd jersey, brave the cold, and cheer your ass off for your team.
Not because you support the coaches, because you support the men on the field. Not because you endorse the administration, because you believe in the University as a collective whole. Penn State University has always been (and will always be) about one thing and one thing only: making life better.

It’s not just a motto, it’s a mission. And you’re still a part of that.

Pray for the children. Cheer for the team. And in two weeks, make the drive to Columbus, so you can watch us bury your Big Ten title aspirations in person.

Sincerely,

A Buckeye Fan”

I do not follow sports at all and I have been catching a little of the students and everyone else should be a bit more concerned about the 8 kids (probably more) who were abused by the system? Watching the news and reading the stuff here seems to over look the fact that at least 8 kids have had their lives turned up side down because of indifference and placing sports over everything else. Seems the priorities are a bit out of whack.

Joe said he feels like he should have done more. Damn straight. How hard is it to call 911 and say that there was a report of a child being abused. Damn straight he is guilty but he is not alone.

Current count at 12:25 pm is 41 individuals.

Big point in the last several posts is a greater part of the community both on and off campus knew off these issues for quite sometime and did nothing.

Curious.....if a child discovers ones 'gayness'....how and when does it start?

Are you suggesting that the abuse was a result of gay behavior?

Sadly the career of a great coach and by all accounts a great man comes to this sordid conclusion.

We are as humans flawed, those of us of faith know well the verse, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". In this regard Joe Paterno is no different then any of us. We fall short, everyday. All of us!

It seems to be human nature to want to sweep this type of conduct under the rug. Whether it be Penn State Football or your local pedophile Priest, teacher or NAMBLA Member. Think about it for a second, who wants to admit to themselves or anyone else that a friend of theirs is a pervert? Truth is if you think about it, of all the members of this forum somewhere there is a pedophile, a rapist, convicted felon, etc etc and as you read this you think, "He's Freakin' nuts, no one I know is like that". Truth is someone you know IS "Like That".

Honestly I think Joe Paterno was so single minded and focused on Football and running a "Clean" school that he never took to heart the rumors or even considered they might actually be true of a man he'd known for 30+ years. Yet they were true enough to sustain indictments so in the end their should be some accountability.

Consider for a moment that Sandusky is NOT GUILTY? What if we find out that JoePa reporting the allegation was the defining moment that began the investigation? JoePa is very tight lipped and old school in this regard. When he throws players off the team he never says much as to why. In Penn State the players were far more fearful of the Coach then the cops. Did JoePa do "Enough"? I think he did. WHY? Because none of us were there, none of us really know just how much weight a comment from JoePa carried in Happy Valley. Sandusky was no longer coaching for a reason and you have to ask, Did Joe force him into retirement? We don't know these things yet and we may never because Joe likely won't talk about it unless forced to by a court system.

Where does Joe Paterno go to get his reputation back? Not Wal-Mart that's for sure. This is what annoys me about the "Instant Media" and rushing to judgement on anyone be they a revered coach or a junkie.

Are you suggesting that the abuse was a result of gay behavior?

I have no idea....I suppose it could if the subject was leaning that way...No doubt Sandusky was taking advantage.....but like I said, there is some point. Wonder if anyone ever kept track of abuse cases and sexual orientation choices afterward.

I would suggest it is more a mtternof predatory behavior and victims. This has nothing to do with sexual orientation and I have seen notbi g to support that idea.

My understanding of the situation is that a teacher aid told Joe that he saw Whats his face in the shower with a minor. If Thats true it is nite a rumor. This was an eyewitness account. Joe had an obligation to call 911. Assuming this is a true account then at the very least he should be out of a job. He should not be alone either.

I was referring to what apparently are long standing rumors involving what now is 40 some kids? Joe Paterno did as required under school policy. We're not supposed to punish people in this country until they've actually been convicted of a crime. How do you or anyone know if Joe Paterno reporting this incident as required was the event that triggered the investigation? Truth is you don't and neither do I. Again, ask yourself WHY Sandusky "Retired" right around the same time as these rumors began to surface? Was Paterno working behind the scenes trying quietly to force his coach to resign?

As to eye witness accounts how many times have attackers been "Clearly" identified as the doer in sexual assault cases only to be set free years later after DNA testing. The point here isn't innocence or guilt. It's the blinding speed at which apparently the entire world rushed to judgement.

One thing that keeps running through my head is something an ultra right wing Law & Order type talk show host said years back during the Michael Jackson scandal. He stated, "The only thing worse than being a pedophile is being accused of being one when you're not"
Every article I read on this and those words just ring in my ears. What if he's not a pedophile?

This not a casual eye witness account. This isn't someone who said he saw some guy molesting some kid. The Coach was a well known person on campus. This would be like picking your wife out of a line up.

Not sure what the school policy was nor do I care. If you see or have some knowledge of this happening you call 911. Yes it sucks when someone is wrongly accused. The school, like the Vatican had the same policy. They want to keep it in house because there is a lot at stake. In this particulvate situation, Joe following 'policy' caused a lot of kids unneeded pain and suffering.

Given the number abuse cases that ate reported I think we need to review how we as a nation deal with child abuse.

As I said earlier............how does the GLBT thing get a foothold on ones existence?

It has everything to do with sexual orientation too.

So you are saying Sandusky with young men is wrong, but if the kid was 16 it would be a gay thing?

Or would it be acceptable if it were two 10 year olds doing the same thing in the shower as Sandusky?

You really don't know if following policy did squat, again a rush to judgement without proof. See fact is neither of us was there. So you don't know a blessed thing. It's amazing I have to refer back to Thomas Jefferson for a quote on this topic.

The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.

Thomas Jefferson

Advertisements... contain the only truths to be relied on in a newspaper.

Thomas Jefferson

All we have are media "reports" and Jefferson has made for me two definitive observations regarding the media.

Look I've no problem giving Jerry Sandusky the needle personally IF he's convicted. I want to make that clear. I've precious little compassion for his ilk, partly because of my friend and the impact childhood sexual abuse had on her life and partly because I'm very much a "Consenting Adults" kind of person. They aren't adults, they're kids and therein lies the difference.

Wrong, there is grand jury sworn testimony. Read the report and come back.

The media is not interested in whom they destroy in their quest for ratings and sales. A grand jury report is NOT a conviction. Joe Paterno apparently is NOT a target. Turning a "Bland Eye" can be a criminal charge in some states and so far no charges on JoePa.
