Union Officials are calling for a third PSP package for the airlines and airline execs are in support of it as the last one was just a down payment. I would think IF they did another one it would simply be a smaller extension just to get the airlines thru this summer. Kicking off talks about it now might delay any gaps like they had last time. We shall see what this administration is willing to do for the American workers...

I wouldn't hold your breath given how quickly they were willing to put energy workers out of work...

Trump owned an airline and has a connection to the industry.

Biden wants to eliminate oil consumption in 30 years, and the airlines are one of the biggest consumers of it and always will be, not to mention how much CO2 they emit...

Well it would be SO easy, reading ur doom and gloom(as USUAL) that PRRESIDENT Biden wants to KILL Commercial Aviation ! Perhaps UPS and FEDEX too !!

And now they are finally including the airlines into this third round of PSP. With 14 Billion for the airlines it will take them thru sep 2021. Originally Biden didn't want to help the airlines this time around until it was explained to him how it would look on him if the airlines furloughed and layoff during his administration time, so now they are including the airlines in their transportation bill of aid for PSP...

Cranky wrote about this today, and says it's a bad idea.

By his math, there will only be 30,000 jobs "saved" by this, which doing simple math on that $14B says it will cost taxpayers about $460K per employee "saved".

That's absurd by any measure.

It's long overdue for the airlines to be able to reduce headcount to meet the present demand without any further artificial interference from the government.

I’ll have to agree with E and Cranky. This argument that it’s not the airlines fault is just ludicrous. What about past history... oil embargo, PATCO STRIKE AND 911. To pay people to stay home and get partial pay to save another person from being laid off doesn’t make much sense either..

Plenty of folks are enjoying the partial pay to stay home. Some have found outside hobbies, others have found other jobs that they actually enjoy more, while some are ready to go back to work as they are bored to death, while even some are knee deep into drinking heavily as their new hobby to keep them busy.
Then there are the smart ones who actually started a side business that took off during this pandemic for them.
I say keep the partial pay going for as long as possible, even with an extension at the end of ours, I would do it again in a heartbeat, where do I sign???
