I have read some articles where they put the purchase at 40-50% of market share going to and in Hawaii (island hoping). Wondering if DOJ may ask for some market share to go to other airlines or even new airlines to start flying into Hawaii?
Or should Southwest jump in with their own bid to acquire Hawaiian Airlines. Although their fleet would not match up well, that could change over time. Maybe do a bid like JetBlue did to steal Spirit.
Some are saying Alaska's purchase is to remain #5.
Usually Southwest would have waited for Hawaiian to fall a little deeper into trouble, and with Alaska offering such a large over price, I am sure Southwest will not over bid just to get Hawaiian Air.
We shall see how it all plays out...
