WE all knew this was going to happen sooner or later. WN of course will never say that US beat them out. they will say something like no gates atc.. blah blah blah. but they wont say is the the city of PHL promised them the world if US went out of biz. and it didnt happen. so now they are cutting back with that LUV tail between their fuselage... US AT PHL RULES...

I would guess that the real reason is that PHL was too operationally unreliable for their fast turn, high utilization operational plan. The same happened to them in SFO a few years ago, although I thought I heard that they are planning to go back to SFO.

Actually WN has a nice set up ...well laid out and organized.

OK. Im confused now. I thought WN was really happy that DL was moving to A-East so that they could have more gates on the E concourse. Will WN not be taking those gates now?

Anyway....what flights are they pulling out of/reducing? I would guess PHL-PIT,LAX,PVD.

If you had bothered to read the news from other sources - you would have found out the whole story. WN is cutting back numerous long haul non-stops across their system - not just Phila. All you have to do is read USA Today and get the full story. Don't think for a minute it us because US is chasing them out of Philly.

They will have a net loss of 3 flts, wouldn't exactly call that much of a cutback.

They also said they plan to add more service when they gain DL's gates in E.

Which i don't understand b/c i thought DL's move would coincide with the construction of the E hammerhead in which WN would lose 3 gates temporarily.

Why don't NW move over to D, swap Gates with WN, this way WN can have E all to them selves, plus puts NW in a better Concourse.

Side question, isn't D Terminal have in ground fuel system?

The last thing we here on the US Airways side of the webboard need to do is talk about "Southwest missteps."

Throw me in that briar patch.

Best, Greeter.

Greeter--what wn does is actually important to what us does. They are also cutting flights out of rno to california cities. They said because of cost savings. It was on the news last night

After 30 or so years southwest is all of the sudden running with their "tail between their legs"? I hardly doubt it. Even in PHX where we are big we don't go head to head with southwest. We "hold our own" but dont beat them out on anything that I can think of. We can't even beat them on PIT-PHL where it's a focus city(barely) to our "crown jewel". THEY unlike us know how to run a tighter operation and don't usually stick around in markets where it's hard to make dough. They are cutting service but also adding more flights than they are cutting in other markets. Just moving a/c it seems to me. YEP Usairways is a "force to be reckoned with". 🙄

Does this mean that they will be cutting more flights out of IAD, I hope?....and no, I am not flyingman in disguise.

CORRECT,

The article in USA Today demonstrates why WN has been the profit leader. They are merely shuffling the deck.

Tempe would do well to note that WN is looking to beef up its "Rapid Rewards" program in order to attract more business travelers

Yes, but when US does this, everyone cries fowl! PIT is a great example of "shuffling the deck", yet everyone moaned about the decisions.

When the company buys my house Ill stop Biat@!n&..ok

This is a good thing. It is starting to show kinks in the WN armor. This is good for US. I know the operation is not performing that well now and I am sure there are alot of reasons. AA, UA, DL have also been having some challenges as well. I for one have confidence in both the employees and mgmt. I flew 4 segments this week all with great cabin crews. The club employees were great. The only issue I had was a gate agent in Philly who more than once told me an earlier flight was full. The plane was loaded two people wanted to get on he would not look at our tickets. The other gate agent stepped in gave us seats and we were on our way. The plane left with 6 opens. The moral of this story is there are some bad apples in mgmt and front line and as a customer I don't let that take away from my over all experience. It's usually very positive flying experience with US.
