Believe me brother, for myself i wish they gave me a choice of where to put my 7.5% But there are people, like my mother, who worked most her life but because of ww2 only had a second grade education. If not for ss, She would be on the street panhandling. But for me? I prefer to have control.

When you look at the volatility of the stock market the idea of most people depending on a 401k for retirement is ludicrous. I read an article a while back (have to if I can find it again) that basically said most people do not have the skill to navigate and make a 401k work.

The article is correct. I'm pushing fifty and am just getting the hang of it. If i knew what i know now when i was twenty, I'd be ready too retire today. I will be able to live off my investments... When im 62 and im not counting on ss.
