747-400 Interior Mod?

News reports in Japan are saying that JAL has chosen DL and Skyteam over AA and oneworld. If so, it is probably a given that the 744s and 777s and probably some portion of the 767 and 330 fleets will become 3 class aircraft. DL considered changing to a 3 class config in recent years; becoming the dominant carrier in every global region and aggressively growing in Asia as well as partnering with JAL will require an even higher quality onboard product. The 744s might be the first aircraft to sport a new DL First Class cabin.

Looks like what DL has with AF/KLM over the Atlantic will be duplicated
in the Pacific with JAL/KAL. Huge implications...

I don't see 3-classes coming back to International for DL in the near future, JMHO.
I think, in this economy, a Premium Economy on over 12hr flights would be more practical--installed mainly on all 744/777 a/c.
Finally, back to the origin of this thread. Mr.Anderson DID say in his conference call last week that indeed the 744s would receive mods including lie-flats in JC and AVOD in YC.

Historical tidbit: Did you know that today, 1/22/2010 marks the 40th anniversary of the first 747 commercial, scheduled flight? PanAm JFK-London and return.
