 A DC10 in BOS blew apart its center gear on landing, scattering debris on the runway and caused considerable structural damage. Does any body have any additional info? See photo

Dude, even the Mekanic website states it happened on pushback from Amsterdam. But you never know...that site has a lot of anti-union posters on it.

So, you're saying they ferried it to BOS? With that damage?

Doesn't even need to be a ferry, depending on the overall payload.

On the DC10 (and presumably, the MD11), the center body gear can be pinned up. AA used to do that during the holidays when we'd operating DC10-30's in/out of LGA as mail freighters, because the center gear was prohibited by the airport authority due to pavement loading issues.

   so the center gear just exploded on pushback, yea we see that happen alot

They worked on it a couple of times. But lately it just sits there, maybe they can make it into a lounge.

Isn't it AC 1243 which is on NW's list of potential leases to abandon? I think Merrill Lynch will have to sue them BK to get them to fix it. Although they could pin the gear up and fly it New Orleans this weekend and hope that it floats into the gulf?

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN,

There are no maintenance or safety issues with scabs working on aircraft at NWA.

Do you have an SRM reference for repairing large holes in body fairings using speed tape and copies of old press releases stating "everything's fine", perhaps?

According to the AA folks in BOS, it happened there and on landing, not pushback.

what would cause the main center gear to collapse like that? and is there an actual photo of the plane? the link at the top is a mechanics board but the article is about a DC-9 that made an emergency landing in STL.

That must have been a sight (DC10s into LGA)

According to one report, the scabs jacked this gear up a two nights earlier for a brake or tire(?)change without deflating the strut.
