I got a tip that Flight Attendants are calling in sick in record numbers.

Anyone else hear of this?

So it seems that maybe the mechanics are not alone. As the leaders vacilate and accuse, whining over past trespasses, or stay silent, it seems that its up to the workers to take a stand on their own.

Keep the Odds claims the pilots are writing up anything they can imagine.

Another post said that an IAM Crew Chief refused to do struck work.

Now I hear the flight attendants are calling in sick in record numbers.

Seems that the mechanics may have more support than the corporate controlled press, the company and the business unions on the property care to admit.

But where have all the leaders gone.

Perhaps they were never really there in the first place.

Based on what I've seen, as well as talking to my friends around the system, this is happening in a lot of places. Probably a lot more than anyone in the board room, AMFA ranks, or even De Pace would have guessed.

For me, it's a mix of solidarity w/ AMT's at the local level ( while I disagree with AMFA's philosophy, I respect the guys at my station), and a bit of "the-enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend."

Just my .02

When observing the IAM culture I always found that the Rank and File were more union minded than those at the TWU. Too bad that trait dissapears in the leadership, except for Charlie Bryan, and he is long gone.

In a way I think thats why the IAM saw more of its members go to AMFA than any other union when they failed to deliver. (NWA, UAL and Alaska) The members had certain expectations therefore they were less tolerant of incompetance, the mechanics had someplace to go, others didnt. TWU members never expected much from the TWU so the dissapointment was nowhere near as bitter, so they are more inclined to go with the flow and make their own deals.

When I called the Teamsters for cards they asked me if we were already in a union, I said "Well we pay dues but I wouldnt say we have a union".

Actually Kev3188 for a long time I thought you were a mechanic. Its refreshing to see some of the guys with common sense in other depts show up here instead of the usual International or company shrills.

Bob, you are just as biased as Rush Limbaugh, but on the other extreme.

and?

Let me ask you something, who owns the media?

Who provides the funding for the media through advertisements?

Whose interests are going to be promoted by the media?

At the very most the media tries to make the appearance of being impartial, except maybe FOX they just claim they are then dont even try to put on the act. I guess they figure I they say they are fair and impartial enough it will stick. Hell it worked with the claim of "the liberal media".

They come out with headlines like this, http://www.expedia.com/daily/service/assis...asp?rfrr=-36064

Northwest mechanics strike; airline continues full operations

Although Northwest Airlines mechanics went on strike Friday night, airline officials immediately enacted contingency plans to allow the airline to continue normal operations. Northwest officials had the plans in place for many months and are operating 100 percent of their flights with no impact to flight schedules or aircraft maintenance.

Northwest Airlines' success a blow for labor
Ability to keep planes in air may prompt other businesses to play hardball

Three days into the strike and they are already claiming victory?

We should check out the archives from when UPS went on strike. I'll bet the initial reports in the so called "liberal media" made it sound like UPS was going to win.

I don’t know if they are calling in sick or not or if the ones that are here are on call staff. They keep their distance and contact is minimal. They do what they have to do and we do our thing. They are a nice change of scenery though.

Shouldn't that be a clue as to the value of your actions; that people won't even come near you even though they don't know you?

Oh that’s not unusual in these parts, people are quite rude. The ice is just a little thick up here. I'm still working on a good icebreaker.

Bob, if you could take those socialist blinders off for just a minute, you would see that those reports are reporting ACTUAL events (a.k.a. "news"). They aren't editorials, crying over the good old days of 1977.

I dont see how they can claim victory in the 3 days of strike and in fact have had several emergency landings. soon rather than later a huge mishp will occur and we will see if then the sumbags runnin the nwa will say if it was a victory!

So let me guess, Fox is your favorite source of "News" Jingo boy?

By the way, typically, you didnt answer any of the questions. When logic gets in the way shout out "Liberal" or Socialist". Heaven forbid anyone should actually think.

Bob, the New York Times, which is by far one of the most liberal papers on the east coast, is carrying the same headlines you're slamming FOX for.

I know I'm biased, but I do think it's fair to say that clearly NWA has won the battle of public perception so far. AMFA's only hope right now is MEL paralysis, and that's not happening yet, and may not happen.

No, I don't like FOX. I actually prefer the New York Times, which as Former ModerAAtor says, has a liberal slant.

Fine, I will answer your questions:

1) Let me ask you something, who owns the media?

Not sure, but it sure isn't NW or any other airline.

2) Who provides the funding for the media through advertisements?

See answer to question #1

3) Whose interests are going to be promoted by the media?

See answer to question #1
