A UNION by design is not supposed to be a political entity. It has been warped into that over the years. A UNION's function is supposed to be representation and collective bargaining for employee working conditions, pay, and benefits. I paid TWU to represent me not to fund the socialist agenda.

I wasn't speaking about unions funding of politcal parties, I was talking about their structure of pay/benefits. You as a union employee are paid the same as every other employee of your group, no matter if they work harder or are a slug; 'to each according to his contribution'. I find it ironic that people come on here complaining about socialists, have no idea what socialism actually is (as evidenced by their rants), and push for a similar structure of pay/benefits.

There are no countries practicing true Capitalism either, never was, never will be. The end result in the Capitalist model and competition is a Monopoly and the reality of the power of wealth wipes away the economic theories that economists cite as balancing forces.

China isnt being secretive at all about how its embracing Capitalism, however they are not embracing Democracy with the same vigor.

Thats where people get confused, they believe that Capitalism and Democracy and Freedom are an unalterable package, that in order for any of them to exist they must all be in place. Democracy and Freedom can exist without Capitalism.

Hmmmm. Democracy, Freedom, Capitalism, Socialism, Fascism, Naziism, etc. They are ALL weasel words created to make you percieve a concept that may or may not exist. The concepts are in the eye of the beholder.

What do you think freedom actually is? Why is it that those that WE percieve as oppressed, may be happy and believe they are enjoying freedom? A bird in a cage may seem oppress because it isn't free. So you set it free and a predator eats it. If you ask the bird, I'm sure it was free in a cage.

Democracy, ha, that's the biggest laugh. It isn't ruled by the majority, but rather the distribution of the majority called districts. Last I heard, the United States of America is a Republic. If you don't know by now, in a Republic, the people DON"T elect the president. Which blows Democracy out of the water, and perhaps a tiny bit of Freedom. So why isn't China embracing democracy and what is your concept of democracy?

Capitalism is actually what you said. It would be nice if the original concept of the more you apply yourself and gain knowledge the more you will earn was the end game. But the competition is more privaledged and you have more ground to cover.

Illegal immigration, visas and outsourcing. Who benefits from expanding the pool of labor? Socialists who claim that they want workers to own the means of production or Capitalists who want a huge surpluss of workers that would have to compete with other workers for employment?

The cure for unemployment is simple, reduce the workweek to 32 hours with no reduction in pay with penalties for company's that force workers to work more than that. That would drive up demand for labor by 20%.

Illegal immigrants (or "undocumented" immigrants, depending on your point of view) can come from any country around the world. All you have to do is come from a visa waiver country or go thru the hassle of obtaining a visa, enter the USA (saying you're a tourist) and then over-stay your visa. Unlike most all other countries in the world, the USA doesn't check to see that everyone left on time. We don't check anyone's passport on the way out. Here in the LA area, I have acquaintances who overstayed their permitted tourist time and are thus undocumented immigrants, no different than the ones who walked across the border at San Ysidro (Tijuana border w/San Diego) or those who sneaked across the southern border (CA, AZ, NM or TX).

Guess you arent Italian. Now the term "wetback' is applied to people who are assumed to be illegal aliens, a geration ago they used the term "wop" toward Italians who simply showed up on our shores without documentation even though the governement used the letters to identify anyone who showed up at Ellis Island With Out Papers.

Apparently the company took it upon themselves to implement the changes from the fiscal cliff, if its avoided they have helped themselves to an interst free loan by skimming millions of dollars from their employees paychecks.
