RIF Notices

You are correct that seniority should be able to choose where he/she wants to go and yrs ago thats the way it was. But here at AA the TWU and AA decided to bump the lowest senior in the system. That is the rule here. But each and every layoff is different and the TWU makes so many deals with AA and conducts each layoff different.
Red border this station this time, next layoff another just to please what ever group that's kissin butt at the moment. Now that O/H facilities are being hit, they want to be able to choose where they want to go change the rules. It would be ok if we had a say on how its done but here at AA the twu&management, make deals and the membership suffers. Back in 2001 no one made a big deal when they cut 250+ heads from LAX sent the guys packing all over the system. But now its the O/H boys and we can't do that because we need them to keep the TWU in power. No consistency, make up rules as we go, that's the TWU way.
I hope your talking about Tulsa, because the AFW mechanics got totally screwed on the one station rule between DFW and DWH. Their were 148 slots at DWH and around 70 at DFW when we were filling out our bid sheets. Two days after we submitted our choices they pull the rug out, and now their are 55 slots at DWH and NONE at DFW. Why this was not done prior to our bidding process, no one knows.
The twu blows goats!

As always, the TWU is making up the rules as we go along.
Why bother to have a Union or a Labor Agreement, if the Union cuts deals and screws the worker?
The "virtual" RIF has been over ridden by the "virtual" deal cutters.

Each company has its way of conducting a layoff, just because one does one thing it does not mean every airline is going to do it that way. Most of us have been at other carriers, the IAM did it one way, the teamsters do it another. TWU does it there way. Its not fair that any one loose their job but it happens. part of the industry. Look at all the guys at UAL who went to indy when that big facility was built only to have UAL dismantle that and send jobs overseas. Delta is sending work to Mexico. NWA sent work overseas as well. Not until all the airlines have a union that represents our class and craft will all the rules be the same. Our contract become amedable what ever rules are in place stay until they are either done away with or changes are made by the membership. Except here at AA with the TWU the international makes the rules and takes care of the T-Town boys to vote in the rules to help AA.

There are guys here in Miami that have been fighting for their seniority for yrs. Since the 2003 layoffs and the TWU has done nothing to fix that. Now that these guys are being effected by this lay off, and have hired a outside legal firm, now the TWU intl looking into it.
Don V. and G. Drumman are coming to Miami on the 14th to attempt to smooth it over but unless the TWU fixes it they will be taking legal action. These guys are not the jr guys but are being effected. So how fair is that.

I agree that the TWU needs to go, if not NOW then When? Haven't they (TWU) made enough deals with AA and screwed enough mechanics over the yrs. Is AFW/DFW/DWH signed enough cards to HELP rid AA of the TWU. If I am not mistaken in the past layoffs all vacancies should of been filled prior to someone being bumped. So why are there openings in ORD, JFK, and other stations around the system not being filled. TWU changing rules as they go. Just to ease the pain of the layoff so that AA won't be disrupted, but what about all the families disrupted by the mechanics having to move.

I do have a question for the AFW/DFW/DWH guys, we all seen that many had transfers in all around the system to get to a line station, before afw closed. So why did the TWU allow you to bump before filling other stations needs first?
Be honest if was allowed you would of went to those stations on transfers, but a deal was made? Now your bumping guys here in Miami and other warm stations and the guys here are going North. How fair is that?

My advice would be to tell the International nothing about intentions or how much knowledge is known about what is happening. They are on a fact finding mission to develop a legal defense, nothing more, nothing less.
Boycott their meeting and tell them to talk with your lawyer. Then your issues will magically be corrected,

If there were all those opening/vacancies before then the TWU/AA did away with them what are you guys in AFW doing about it?

Are you going to do the typical AA/TWU represented thing and just take it or are you going to stand up for what is right and fight back?

If your not already helping to rid AA of the TWU then get involved and help the guys there and get all of the other memebers who are being screwed to do the same

SIGN AN AMFA CARD LETS SHOW THIS TWU/AA UNION THE DOOR........

I've been an organizer for AMP and AMFA for the last 3 years here at AFW. As far as this RIF is concerned, the union was over seeing the screwing, and Bob V and Don V (our company appointed twu union stooges), did nothing about it. What should we do? Over half our e-board is pro-company, and two of them have already applied for management positions. Our company union with the help of Jonestown dcked this one up, let's focus on getting the yellow cards.

How many times does it take to goto out side legal help from the mechanics ranks at AA? Looks like there may be another one come out of DFW-DWH-AFW with the open slots prior to bidding and the new reduced and eliminated numbers after they turn their bids in. What does it freakin take boys?? Some of you guys are like the battered wives and girlfriends that keep going back and never get rid of them. If it is, as posted, you guys better take action, otherwise the TWU will, yet again, get away with another well worked out deal done behind closed doors with the TWU "agreement" to do what ever they wish. And since the TWU and co agreed with each other, the TWU will do nothing about it, absolutely NOTHING...

So tell us all what amfa would do to make the situation better? They have not had much success at enforcing the contracts at profitable airlines like Southwest or Alaska. What would make anyone believe they can do a better job at AA??

This is crazy talk. Do you really believe this nonsense?

Even if every mechanic in every airline was represented by Union "A1" there would still be several different contracts and several different rules put in place by the individual carriers. You want the same rules? You should be trying to united every carrier under the same name, then you will get what you want.

Good luck with that.
.
Even for me, however, this all seems a bit too socialist.

So tell us all what amfa would do to make the situation better? They have not had much success at enforcing the contracts at profitable airlines like Southwest or Alaska. What would make anyone believe they can do a better job at AA??

To start with, AMFA would not have let it get that far. Secondly, with open negos, and transparent representation, there would be no "behind closed doors deals". Thirdly, the membership of AA (with AMFA) would make the choice of how to fix the situation.
See, there you go again running your mouth, without any facts. AMFA has done, and outperformed the teamsters, hand over fist in the system boards and arbitrations. Let's not forget the fight for the 4th line, sick/attendence arbitration, 717 work arbitration, 717 "C" Checks being added at MCO soon. And when the AA/TWU members have to go to outside representation for legal issues in order to get their jobs back numerous times and different employees speeks volumes.
AMFA has added more work, jobs, and headcount in the short 8 years they have been at SWA, than the almighty teamsters have added in their entire 28 years at SWA. By the time that SWA is done hiring for the new 4th line, W/A going away, and added maint from the AirTran integration, AMFA will easily Double the mechanics added for the work loads added directly due to the contract language nego by AMFA.
Bring AMFA in Anomaly, you know you want to. The membership will control the union, not just a small few ONLY looking out for themselves. AA mechanics will be represented by AMFA before you guys are suppose to vote on your TWU leaders (or should I say appointed). AMFA won the last election at AA. However, the NMB allowed dead people, supervisors, retired, and rif'ed mechs be added to the list. They are much more prepared this time. All their ducks are in a row. It won't be long and AMFA will move right in at AA. Good luck to all of you, and enjoy your new transparent union once you all vote in AMFA...
