So now it becomes personal!

I'M not the one who has been warning the country about the evils of socialism for the past umpteen years. Socialism is socialism, no matter how you cut it. If you don't like the fact the somebody gets government health care from YOUR dollar, then you'd better not support any proposal where YOUR industry gets support from MY money. As I said...socialism is bad...until you need it.
K.C.do you collect
I'd rather see the sickest of the airlines go belly up, which is what happened in 1991/1992 when the Gulf War decimated demand and took out any wind for EA and PA to try and recover. Having the government step in and manipulate market forces is generally a big mistake. It allows companies to remain bloated and avoid making structural changes that are needed for long term health.
Under "normal" circumstances I would agree, but these are far from "normal" times. Because of the pandemic, Trump shut down the whole of this countries economy. From a booming economy to nothing within such a short period of time was quite a shook! Trump realizes that the Airline Industry is one of the major components that make our economy run smoothly. You have to realize that the Airline Industry over the years has consolidated down to what, four major airlines? And the loss of even one of these would be a major disruption. What Trump is trying to do is bring back to life what he shot down which, by no means, is one hell of an undertaking!

Once more with feeling - Socialism is socialism, regardless of the circumstances. Obama took a lot of heat for bailing out GM (socialism), which has as many, if not more, employees than airlines. Socialism is bad. Until you need it. At lease eolesen is fairly consistent and said the market should dictate what happens to airlines. It should have happened in the days following 9/11...an airline fails, the others pick at the carcass. It sounds awful (and is kind of)....but that's the "fee market". Instead we had airlines cannibalizing the others via mergers and THEN they filed bankruptcy.

AA was the last of the big airlines to file bankruptcy. Imagine what might have happened if they hadn't been competing with airlines that were not protected by bailouts and bankruptcy courts.

One more time....socialism is socialism regardless of the circumstances. Did you support the bailout of GM? GM was the largest or second largest automaker in the US. But people on the right said that we should let the market determine the fate of GM. Did you support or oppose that?

Socialism is socialism, no matter how you cut it. Once again...socialism is bad until you need it.
Again....... some people "need it" their whole life. I don't mind helping people when they are down but at that point they are parasites and most likely have parasite offspring (we both know generational welfare is a thing so don't even try it).

If my choice is no socialism at all and having to carry the burden of parasites my whole damn life then I choose no socialism at all.

My tolerance only goes so far.

How far does yours go?

Trump is still denying the pandemic. Governors who stood up to him and kept their states shut down were un-American in his eyes.

Any discussion out of the White House on this extension is an attempt to replace the votes of all the people who died due to Trump’s ineptitude.

Today, that's likely AA. That's a LOT of potential voters in TX, AZ, FL and IL. Votes/states Trump needs. My guess is we'll hear a lot of vague promises for the next few weeks.

I'm pretty sure it's AA...look at their parent company...they got where they are after several bankruptcies and mergers. It's their modus operandi, except there aren't any more airlines to merge with.

Socialism is socialism no matter what the circumstance. I am living the the black and white world that most conservative republicans are living in. There are no shades of gray...except when it might benefit them. Once again.....socialism is bad - until you need it. And Trump is running on fears of socialism. And he's done more socialist things via Executive Orders than any other president in history.

My point is socialism is socialism, no matter how you cut it. Paying farmers to offset damage caused by his tariffs is socialism. Funding US airlines to avoid layoffs is socialism. Socialism is bad....until you need it.

Looking forward to the next ten or so posts where you repeat "socialism is socialism" and socialism is bad- until you need it".

As long as I keep hearing ads that say a vote for Biden is a vote for socialism...and they don't mean in in a good way...and posters who have condemned socialism for year posting that this is a great move by Trump, I will remind them about their views on socialism because they seemed to have forgotten how much they fear and despise socialism. And the actual definition of socialism is "a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole." So if the government running my healthcare is a bad thing, why is the government running an airline any better?

Ever hear the expression “Fish and guests in three days are stale.”?

Welfare riders are guests that never, ever, ever, leave.

They just keep holding their hand out for a hand out.

And Trump is running on fears of socialism. And he's done more socialist things via Executive Orders than any other president in history.
Feel free to prove your claim.

American Airlines provides a service and creates jobs. American Airlines generates wealth and brings in money from travelers from other countries. American Airlines benefits our country. American Airlines contributes.

You show me ONE example of a welfare rider benefiting our country.

You can't, because your whole foundation is cracked and weak.

It is one thing to help someone when they are down. It is another to carry them their whole life because they don't want to get a job. HELP should be just that, help, temporary, not a permanent state. Past a certain point it is no longer help, it is enabling. I think at a basic level you know that but your leftist indoctrination won't let you admit it.

Explain to me how it is unconstitutional to make work searches, job training, or volunteering a condition of receiving welfare but it is constitutional to take money out of my check every two weeks without my consent to support someone who is of sound body and mind and has not worked in 15 years?

As far as the Airlines I have said MANY times over, the government should not be supporting payroll for a company that is 80 percent overstaffed. Also, I do not support handouts to the airlines but given the impact on the economy low interest loans are certainly appropriate.

NIce rant, but socialism is socialism, regardless of the circumstances. General Motors provided a product and created jobs. Did you support Obama's intervention....be honest now.

I understand what you are saying E, but when a patents heart stops, what is one of the first things doctors do? They shook it to get it started again. Trump shut down a 3 Trillion $$$ Dollar economy to save lives, Now he has to figure a way to restart it with the least amount of "Collateral damage"! There is more than one major Airline hurting right now. Some worse than others. But unless something changes fairly soon we could see more than just a few lay-offs. And I understand where you are coming from, but the bigger question would be can the country afford to see one, or more, of the majors go under right now?
