Will Oneworld lose JAL?

JFK, would you like some ketchup or Tabasco to go with your crow?

Fried with a little duck sauce would be good.

Let's not go patting Arpey on the back just yet though,

"We had a fierce debate over whether we should choose Delta and Skyteam for future profitability or stay in Oneworld and avoid incurring a loss from making a switch this year," JAL Vice President Daiji Nagai told a briefing.

"Our conclusion was that we have to survive this year and the next year at all costs. There is no 'after three years' unless we stay focused on the restructuring programme in front of us."

Future profitability with Delta or stay in Oneworld and not lose any more this year because we literally can not afford to lose another cent?

I still think management is running scared from the competition, Delta especially. They aren't afraid of throwing their weight around and leveraging strengths.Tom & Gerry are penny wise but pound foolish and overall the airline is suffering as a result.

I agree with you because relaying on other is hard because doesn't alway work. They chose the one that would cost least of the problem.
I am hoping for the best but true reality is when ANA CAL UAL get ATI in JP/US market we see what happens and doesn't include ATI from JP to rest of Asia. DAL and JAL will be the two smallest carriers from JP to Asia. But DAL will fair better because its network will help them. AAL and JAL they have to be ready to defend their market share JP/US. JAL will be solo in JP to Asian.

The route changes announced so far are very mild; JAL announced last week that it will retire all 744s over the next few years.

If they lose any market in the US AA has to make it up, but if JL loses any markets in asia they'll surrender it to ANA,UA, and DL out/in bound from JP. AA will have a smaller partner in asia. Hopefully they start flying HGK to connect CX or start their own slowly like that its more cost effective.

They will lose Asia market share first. The first round of cuts are out, but they are in the baby stages. Jal will be lucky to come out with anything close to what they have now unless the Japanese government steps in to the rescue again. Otherwise, look for "the art of arrival " to gobble up the market share.

Will Arpey "Fall back" and watch Delta steal JAL right out from under his nose?

So Gerry finds himself in quite a spot doesn't he? Invest in JAL, spending potentially hundreds of millions AMR can not afford or let Delta swoop in and we lose JAL and further reduce AMR's insignificant Asian presence to complete irrelevance.

What's Gerry gonna' do now? The NW management at DL is playing hardball and Gerry doesn't have a clue what to do, other than retreat.

Well in the end AA did not spend not even a dime and come out the winner. I guess AA management deserve a little bit of credit here. They were able to convince JAL not to jump
ship and its costing AA nothing.

I just read an article that the cuts are not going to be that deep....
Does UAL have the cash to gobble these days???
