What's new

20 More 757's...

Agree that, if true, it probably will not be ex-DL/NW 757s due to the engine difference.
BA still has about a dozen fairly new (90-97) Rolls-powered 757s that they probably would love to get rid of. Maybe a deal w/BA is in the works?

Well heard from a reliable source...that 11 are pretty much wrapped up, but they are trying to get some more.

If anything they are needed out west for the expanding Hawaii service we can't keep our old 20+ year old planes in the air they are falling apart. and the delays keep coming. we need the spare planes.

Spare planes sitting on the ground waiting to replace one that breaks is lost revenue.

Lost revenue is when you cancel flights or they go late. at least putting newer plane on the routes would help. when you trying to start up a new route system like Hawaii you can't afford the problems we are having. we had a flight last Sunday that was over 7 hrs late due to it breaking down with the only other extra etops plane in PHX just leaving for DCA. you need the spare on the ground til the last etops flight leaves then you can send it out. its poor scheduling.

We have seen it on the west, where there are no spares and the operation suffers. We've also seen where there were too many spares sitting around and the operation suffers. The trick is to have the right amount of operational spares so the operation doesn't suffer. We've seen the operational spares being worked on, the minor issues of course, so that the plane can be flight ready in a very short time. All the while, increasing the maintenance done and being ready for the contingency.

My lil ears, fresh from the Sandcastle, heard rumblings that the next couple of 757s to come online (after the 3 East ATA's arrive) will be going to the west...

... but as REPLACEMENT aircraft..

not growth aircraft

"In 2006, AWA is expected to take deliveries of two more A319 aircraft and return eight 737-300s, two A320s and one 757. As of December 31, 2005, 48 aircraft have lease expirations prior to the end of 2008."

Straight from the annual report.....

The 2 319's (839,840) are online and painted with the paint and flying the 1 757 (907) has been gone at goodyear getting a c-check but out of our flying fleet and most of the 737 that are going are gone and the last 320 is gone too as far as I know. there might be a few more 737 to go yet.

Please excuse me...

What was the fleet size for 757's when U when into their 3 or 4th BK..??

They already had these A/C's in the fleet before, what makes you think they will stay..??

The highest number of 757's US ever had was 34. US had 8 more 757's on order but they were cancelled by Wolf.

3 757's were returned to the leasing companies at US. 618, 615 and 616 if memory serves me correctly.

Specially those old eastern plane, which were the first 757s off the line. those really look run down.

US East has the oldest EAL 757s that came off the line.
