Oil hit a record $72 this am. Any bets on how long until we see $80 oil

I never bet on a sure thing. No bet, but not long. The oil companies dear to Dubya and Cheney's hearts are coming into their own finally.

If sanctions are imposed on Iran, it will exceed $100.00 a barrel!

The pain has not yet begun folks.

Just remember to Vote Yes to more concessions like a good TWU sheep when AA comes a begging when it goes over a hundred dollars a barrel. Baaah,Baaaah,Baaaah,Baaaaah,Baaaaaah. :mf_boff:

If we see $100 oil, there won't be anything to vote on. It would be the trigger which causes AMR to file Ch.11, if for no other reason than to jettison MD80's:

Code:
Model Total Leased
B737-823	77 10
B757-223	124 37
ex-TW 757	19 19
B767-223ER	16 14
B767-323ER	58 13
B777-223	47 0
MD80 327 169
A300 34 24

Totals 702 286

Right off the bat, AA could dump up to 169 of the MD80's (some of which are already parked in the desert), 24 of the A300's (take that, Airbus...), and all 19 of the PW powered 757's.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a pre-packaged deal with Boeing to order 737-800's to backfill some of the rejected MD80's.

Cutting DFW by 25% would still leave AA with at least 50% of the local market, and I'd expect STL to be back to spoke status rather quickly.

I would not be surprised. One of the reasons that I have resisted moving to STL and continue to commute from DFW is that I have no confidence that SLT will be a free-standing f/a base in another 2 years. I'm not sure they will close it--though downgrading STL to spoke status would certainly mean a closure of the base--but I think it will become a satellite of ORD. That way the company would have all the advantages of a f/a base and none of the overhead.

Yeah, you're right about that. Gary Yingst will just sign off on the concessions without a vote.

If oil hits a $100/barrel then we won't need to worry about concessions because there won't be a job to go to.

AA could not buy new B-737's tomorrow even if they had the cash money. The production line is already committed to other customers for about 2 years.
Another bright decision of AA management to sell off[or trade] B-737 production slots with Quantas about 2 years ag😵ur management cannot see past the end of its nose.

Careful goingboeing, if you mention Robert Crandall, Former ModerAAtor will tell you "Bob Crandall has LEFT the building" !!!
("E", I could'nt resist   😛 )

BUT goingboeing, since "YOU" mentioned RLC(correctly I might add), If oil went to $100, I'd bet AA would be closer to "uncle" Bobby's "projection" of flying Hub to Hub/Transcons/and International "ONLY" !!

(And then there is the lil' matter of American Eagle, perhaps flying a fleet of E-190's)

Since when has our vote mattered?

==========================================================

It will "MATTER" BIG TIME, if we "jettison" the F/ing REPUBLICAN controled congress this November, and ESPECIALLY the "$hit House"(OOP's sorry, a key board slip), I mean White House, in 08'.

For those of you, who may have forgotten,
THE GOP IS FOR $$$$$ BIG BUSINESS, and WEALTHY PEOPLE !!!!!

WAKE UP PEOPLE !!!!!!!!
STOP taking VOTING INSTRUCTIONS from "the Pulpit", on Sunday mornings, and remember that this country was founded on the "seperation, of church and state" !!

(the above advise, is RECOMMENDED STRONGLY for AA employees in the states of Texas, and Oklahoma) !!!!!!!!!!!

I think that NOONE should buy gas from ExxonMobile.

NOONE!

The former CEO is getting a nearly $400 million dollar retirement package!

Not in OPEC'c (and oil companies) interest to have oil much above the present levels.

The Iran nuclear debate will blow over, they are years away from a weapon.

The consumer is starting to hurt with oil in the low 70's, around $3 at the pump.

It'll most likely top out below 80, the world is awash in oil, though the refined products are another story.

If oil hits a $100 a barrel a lot of us won't have to worry about voting for concessions.

You are assuming that after all these years of standing firm, the APA will roll over on their SCOPE clause and allow AE to fly a/c with more than 70 seats. If they did, there would be no need for the E-190. AMR would move the S80s and the 737s to AE.

I don't see APA giving up that much income--all the S80/737 cockpits leaving the dues paying ranks--or control.
