A-321 Re-Config Questions ?

Yes but it was a about two weeks ago that I checked. Check on the PHL-LAX runs around april. I think thats when I checked. Some are saying 16. I'm gonna give a look.

Ok just typed in a random date of March 25th and the seats were 26 and 143. I typed in April 25 and the 321's seating is 16 and 153.

so the 321's will still have 169 seats, just more Y and less F...

Yes It Can and They Are>> 🙂
The Envoy seats are actually slightly NARROWER than the existing 757 F seats, so doing 2x2 won't be hard at all, and should even give some more aisle (or elbow) space.

Capacity:
The Spirit’s A321 aircraft holds 198 passengers with 182 in Spirit Coach and 16 in Spirit Plus.

What is the point of shifting 10 seats out of F into Y with no net seat gain? So now instead of potentially selling up to 10 more F seats and keeping their elites happy, there will be 10 more elites stewing in Y with no potential for added revenue from ticket sales. This is lose-lose unless they use those 10 seats to create a mini-cabin of Y+ - which would be a good business decision. As a 5-year elite who primarily buys the el cheapo fares for both business and personal travel and often uses miles to upgrade, I would be very satisfied with a Y+-type alternative.

There may have been a change of plans - certainly possible with the performance of the A321. But when they announced the additional/converted orders last fall, they said:

US Airways (NYSE: LCC) today added seven new Airbus A321s to an existing order for 30 Airbus A320 family aircraft. The amendment also converts existing orders for one A320 aircraft and seven A319 aircraft to an order for eight A321 aircraft. Deliveries of the 15 A321 aircraft will begin in 2008 and run through 2010. Deliveries under the prior order were not scheduled to begin until 2009. The A321 aircraft will be configured to accommodate 183 passengers in two classes of service (16 first class, 167 main cabin).

They take out 2.5 rows of F and add 4 rows of Y to the existing aircraft. Looks like some pitch is going to be lost, too.

Yes, but their long haul flights to the West coast mostly go from DTW. So the additional weight in pax I guess can be offset with less fuel.

They also do FLL-LAS and FLL-LAX, both of which are slightly shorter than PHL to either of those cities.

Looks like BB Ben's marketing is working at both Spirit and back home at LCC.....

For one they don't insult their customers in print ala Travis Christ...
Umm....actually....you'll recall the August 2002 hoopla when Ben basically told the US FF's that they don't really matter...

I wouldn't go so far as saying Ben is the prince of customer service....Let's go to the wayback machine.

http://www.usatoday.com/travel/news/2002/2...ngry-fliers.htm

"Someone who flies a lot isn't necessarily loyal if what they're doing is buying the lowest-priced ticket every time they fly.....That's not necessarily the kind of loyalty we want to reward. We want to reward those people who pay a premium for the services we offer."

Of course, the former management of US listened to the huge uproar BBBen's comments made and never instituted the policy (yet).

Think about this. When The "Killer B's" (B. Ben Baldanza & Barry Biffle) got to Spirit they chose to put their version of F/C IN the new planes not remove it.

Having met the "Killer B's" on several occassions I think they are a little smarter than US when it comes to marketing. "Miss Jill" flys them and just loves them. She's a point A to point B type so Spirit works for her.

For one they don't insult their customers in print ala Travis Christ, who rumor has it swallowed his foot again. Just a rumor but the "Joe Sent Me" Article is fact.
But if Miss Jill lives by You, She has also made a choice to drive say 20 minutes to ACY and not the hour, hour+ to PHL. Sounds like a smart woman, what's she doing with You (kidding)?

Piney,
Your last Statements have echoed what numerous employees have said about the Sand Castle just repeating History. I will not say that Ben is on the Same page as Gordon, but things are all to similar.

When USAir purchased Piedmont in the late 80's, They PURCHASED their competition. Because Piedmont had purchased Empire a few years prior, that put Piedmont in Direct Competition with them. USAir never had a decent Marketing Department and neither does Tempe. The Answer is to TRY TO BUY your way into running an Airline. As much as I hate to say, Delta Marketing was/is going to chew up the Caslte and spit them out. So the answer? Try to Buy the competition. As far as Ben and Gordon, we know that Ben would have not lasted in Tempe because he had a plan and was INVOLVED in running the day to day operation of the Airline. When AL purchased PI, it was the Good Ole Boys Club in Washington. No Sourthern Hick was going to tell them how to run an Airline, so there was NO Room in the Crystal Palace for Gordon. Gordon did get the call and made CO what it is today. When AL/PI merged, EWR was one of the Largest airports in Terms of Departures for that combined Airline. Now, it's just a city that Washington and now Tempe could care less about. If ANYONE from Tempe wishes to debate that fact, you are more then welcome too. But take a look at the Poor Conditions of the Facility before opening your mouth.
