I saw the "New" Us 767 seats a while back. If it were not for the fact I knew what was there before I would have thought they needed retired. They were all scratched up and the material was frayed. One had some famous duct tape on a corner. Hard to believe they are less than a full year old. You would never see such a thing on a Singapore flight! US actually puts out a press release that they were spending 20 some million to refurb the fleet. Problem is no cleaning is taking place. I am sure they take a Hoover through at night possibly, but that is not enough to keep it looking at it's best. The new "leather" is a nice touch as you do not sit down and have a dust cloud surround you. However, even leather needs cleaned and this is where US fails. Preventative measures would go a long way at keeping it looking like they spent the 20 million wisely.

Now back to the original topic, Sorry!

Just a quick point...Singapore is a place where they cane you if you spit gum on the sidewalk (I personally think this might be a good idea). Maybe they don't have the same problems with people primeing their ink pens on the leather seat backs.

The difference being that you would never see an airline like Singapore launch their new aircraft without all the proper fixtures already in place. If you have ever been on Singapore Airlines you know instantly why they have been rated best airline in the world like 16 years in a row. Of course their average fleet stays less than ten years. It might take US that long to get the seats in and working properly.

To be honest, the only problem that I see with the seats on the 767 (Envoy) is that the cloth seems to be not of a good quality (the same material that is found on the 330-300 and 757 Envoy as well), other than that and the narrow aisle I see no real problem with the seats, it's sure a lot better than what was up there!

As far as the cabins being clean, I have seen a huge improvement (excluding the 737-400's with the old cloth seats) and I really fail to see where our planes are so disgusting now. A huge problem is this bus crowd and the entitled society that we have to deal with who have absolutely no respect for other's things, nor do they know how to conduct themselves in public!!!

Yes Sir.

The planes would be spotless if there were no customers.

While I will admit that US has made great strides in it's cabin appearance there is much more work to be done. For those of you that feel or believe that the planes are clean need to nonrev on ANY other American carrier out there and see for yourselves. Our airplanes are slip covered, laminated and basically spruced up a bit. Look no further than Delta and Continental or for the LCC's Frontier. SPOTLESS airplanes and galleys. C'mon now. 🙄

Except that not everyone flying on SQ is from Singapore.

I guess I'm the only one that likes the Wood Paneling. When I turned the corner at the 1L door and saw it. I was instantly reminded of someones private BBJ. As for someone referring to it as the fake 1970s panelling. The two cannot even be compared. I use to have that crap in the basement of my last house. A little more fine grain than this but close enough http://www.irememberjfk.com/mt/graphics/paneling.jpg

I think the stuff in the aircraft has a great finish. Looks clean and gives off a warm feeling to the cabin.

Yes, the IKEA product line is rather comprehensive these days.

Well actually I commute and rarely do I EVER commute on this circus, therefore leaving me to use every other airline. With the exception of Southwest (who seems to always be spotless), I don't really see that big of a difference although I'm usually not in their galley trying to compare.

I've been on quite a few AA and DL aircraft in the last 2 years that where dirty, had broken cabin items, have seen duct tape on both, etc. This is not meant to insulte AA or DL or their employees, only to reconize US is not alone, and from what I see is getting better.

Look, all one has to do is go to airliners.net or jetphotos.net and look at airlines cabins by clicking "cabin views". It's is LAUGHABLE to even think that our a/c as a whole are up to par with other airlines when it comes to clean, pleasing to the eye cabins. C'mon now. Really.....go on those sites and look at DL, CO and the LCC's like Frontier, WN or Jetblue. NO WAY are our a/c anywhere near as nice. NO WAY. Sorry. 🙄

FWIW, I recently flew a R/T on a few 737-400's, and the cabins looked MUCH better to me than they have in a long time. Seats, trays, and carpet were as close to spotless as possibe. The lavs were clean as well, and from what I saw the galleys were also OK. A big improvement over what they were a few years ago.

When my sister's family went to PUJ on US, my overly critical fuss-budget brother-in-law commented that our planes (Airbus 319 and 320) were much nicer than what he has seen on AA. He is an AA ff. If he had any compaints about his experience on US, he would have said so. Believe me. Wonder what AA did to tick him off.

Oh no doubt that there is a huge improvement in our aircraft appearance. With that said, our a/c went so long with limited care that they just appear tired. I would exclude the airbus fleet from my comments for the most part but the 737's and many 757's are just dreary.

FWIW, I recently flew a long haul flight on SWA from PHL to Texas and was suprised to see that this A/C was not cleaned very well. There was leftover trash in the seatpockets, crumbs and scraps of wrappers on the floor, and the windows were even smudged and dirty. I think US has come a long way in recent months on A/C appearance and I would rank them pretty close to other carriers on flights that do not get thorough cleans throughout the course of the flying day.

Surpised no one mentioned this but A/C 280, the second A-330-200 arrived at BFM on Friday June 19th. It's expected to be ready for service by June 26th.

The TLV flight starts July 1st and so far 279 has not been anywhere but SJU. The latest issue of About US has a front page story from Friday claiming it went to CDG earlier in the week and I understand it was planned to but it did not. Probably be a good idea to get the ETOP's certification done soon you would think?

The planes are ETOPS qualified from the factory I believe.
