AA may no longer be the "lagest" carrier anymore

Defieciency in mathematical skills huh NBNW.... I am sorry but NRT and HKG are both strongholds for UAL, we do intra asia from both.. Brag about your craft when they come on property, sounds like some AA posters who talk about the 787.. and how they will be announced at random times, and nothing has happened yet...

North by Northwest is certainly correct; China and NRT 5th Freedom rights aren't licenses to print money, as both NW and UA (with plenty of both China and NRT) didn't avoid Ch 11. I'm sure they're lucrative, but like a single baseball player, they can't carry the whole team.

This is the Travel Insider's take on the situation:

In a bit of public negotiation, a New York hedge fund that owns 2.4% of Delta and 4.6% of United sent a letter to Delta's management this week, asking DL to merge with (buy out in a stock swap) United Airlines.

Apparently, some of the hedge fund's consultants have identified $585 million in potential annual savings if the airlines were to merge. The same consultants also perceived savings of as much as $1.5 billion a year in a DL/NW merger, but added costs of $171 million a year if a DL/CO merger were to occur. Their preference for a DL/UA merger is based on how the two airlines' route structures would fit together.

a day from the U.S) to Ual's 4 a day Interport (6 a day from the U.S). NW has an additional 4 Interport depart. a day form NGO (and a daily form the U.S)

EBITDA/Ent.Val....NWA 5.2 B/AA 5.1B , DAL 4.9B, Ual 5.4B (this is the number that will be looked at during a transaction.)
Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization. An approximate measure of a company's operating cash flow based on data from the company's income statement. Calculated by looking at earnings before the deduction of interest expenses, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.

And DT, wouldn't it be a kicker if NW (which currently has the balance sheet to do it) went after Dal or Ual (and sold off ual's pacific to the highest bidder). There's all kinds of wicked potions that could be cooked up.
