Nightwatch, with the TWU we won't be able to afford a HOME,VEHICLES, or a FAMILY either! I would rather be laid off(to preserve wages and benefits of those who didn't get cut) and try to find comparable work elsewhere. There is life outside the airline industry. I also would rather come back from layoff with full pay and benefits(AMFA) than come back to a minimum wage job(TWU) with no benefits(TWU)!
I would rather the TWU keep your job than to have to pay for another loser on welfare. 😛h34r:

I would have rather given the company the relief they needed and then had my union negotiate a "SNAPBACK" like the pilots did!!!!!!! My union failed me, unlike the pilots union did their members, NOW THEY WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED!!!!!!!

Keep the Faith...........AMFA NOW!!!!!!!!

Funny thing you should mention that:

Since 1963, the pilots at AA have been represented by themselves; they don't need outsiders running their show. No Little, no Delle, just themselves.

So why don't the mechanics form their own version of the APA? Why always look to someone else to save you from yourselves?

FWAA, maybe you would like to go ask the NMB if that is OK with them, while you are at it, you need to ask the company, twu, PR firm and the afl-cio, if that is OK with them also? Are you saying the APA does not have a president? Why would you care who represents the mechanic Craft and Class and are you saying we should not have the right to choose our own union, be it a stand alone union twu or AMFA?

One more question FWAA. Jim little is advocating that we can open and negotiate back the concessions in 2006. Do you believe AA has any obligation to agree to any changes in the contract until after the expiration date??? Curious about your opinion!

Well I've met with several officers of the APA. In the APA there has been debate going on about merging with ALPA. Many are for it but it seems that the ALPA's terms are too harsh.

You see even the pilots recognize that the more unified they are industrywide the better off they are.

We are not looking for someone to save ourselves from ourselves, we are looking to join together with our fellow mechanics.

No skin off my nose which union you pick, and no, I'm not telling you that you shouldn't be able to pick your own union.

My question is why have the mechanics suffered for nearly 50 years under such a crappy union and yet failed to form their own union, like the APA, that's all.

Sure the APA has a President - he's a captain for AA. Delle, on the other hand, has spent his lifetime cultivating a union without any members, and now that times are really bad, the desperate are flocking (slowly) to his brand of tonic.

AMFA looks a lot like a proprietary concern, not a labor union. Just because Delle was once a mechanic doesn't mean his union is any different from the busdriver's union.

On the early opener: We all know that an agreement to negotiate is an agreement without any real meaning, right?

Of course the agreement COULD be amended by agreement in 2006-08, but let's all be honest here - there's no way in hell AA will relent on the concessions prior to the expiration of the initial term. If anything, AA will probably come back, hat in hand, once US goes under and UAL extracts more money from its employees in its futile bid to stay alive.

Best of luck to you whichever union represents you.

First you must remember that during the regulated airline era there was no reason for a strong union, it was just there. Up until 20 years ago any industrial union would do. The last twenty years are the ones that will show the true colors of a union. The corruption is deep and embedded in the twu and there is not a chance in a 1000 to fix it as many have tried unsuccessfully since deregulation to do so.

I would have to disagree with your synopsis of "flocking to his brand of tonic". What is happened is people are being forced to open their eyes and see a better choice. There might be a parallel in that they are desperate to get rid of the twu as wages and benefits continue the 20 year decline and the pressure is ever increasing. I do think people will stay put until enough pressure forces them to make a move and that time has come.

Please explain your statement to "AMFA looks a lot like a proprietary concern, not a labor union." What do you consider a union? Is a union not made up of people with similar concerns and goals that have the ability to withhold their collective labor to make gains in wages and benefits?

I will say that I do appreciate your honesty in answering my question toward early openers, thank you for that.

Still no reply from the TWU on their performance.

Looks like the TWU is now outsourcing the job of Local leaders. If the company were to announce a plan to form committees made up of randomly chosen-by the company, individuals to see what the workers want, in other words to not go through the Locals elected leaders, we would accuse them of union busting, but here we now see the TWU International doing the same thing. Is this another precident setting move by the TWU-LOCAL BUSTING? What information could the unelected leaders of the TWU not get from the elected TWU representatives from the 23 locals in the AA system? Why do they have to outsource the locals work?

If the Locals are not able to represent the members and the Union has to spend money hiring outsiders to do the Locals work, in other words outsourcing the locals work, then why would the TWU keep sharing their $3.1 million dollar kickback from the company plus the 70% of dues to all those locals?

Like I said, maybe what we are seeing is "Local Busting" in the making. If the International eliminates all the Locals, rolls them all into one and outsources all the work that used to be accomplished at those locals they could keep all the 70% that now goes to those locals plus the entire $3.1 million kickback. The new "superlocal" would be based in Tulsa and the President would be guaranteed a job in the International. That would keep them cooperative.

The Locals have every right to be irate about the outsourcing of their work. They were elected to represent the members, to talk to the members, to find out what the members want and to make recommendations for change that the members want.

Sonny Halls hand picked committee on change was intended to fail, this gave him the excuse to do what he is doing now. Sonny paired off leaders who were calling for change with his hand picked lackeys to insure that the panel would be deadlocked. What did he promise Gillespie and his other lapdogs?A relation of my brother is a close friend of Gillespie and he said that he has been looking pretty worn out. I heard that Gillespie has been taking a beating from the membership so I bet an International spot looks real appealing to him. Certainly a lot better than returning to the bag room to work under the conditions he helped put in place.

By having this outside group come in, meet with the members while their elected representatives sit there like useless turds, the International showing the members that their locals are insignificant. This way if they dissolve them the members will not feel as though they lost anything.

Bob, I think you need to cut back a dozen or so on the donuts, that glaze is affecting your posts. We really do not care what you think, you're only Bob, and Bob, you're a nobody that thrives to be a writer of writers. You should stick to what you know Bob, eating burgers and shopping at the "plus stores".

And really Bob, what has Sonny Hall done recently to affect your life as an aircraft mechanic, you remember, the job you're supposed to be doing. If the International had done nothing to create change you would have harped on that also. Funny, when they were lining your pockets with $800/mo. you sang a lot softer song, such a dweeb.

I love when Steve goes for the fat jokes, it shows his desperation. He has no arguement towards what was posted so he tries to divert things towards the personal.

So Steve, I guess you really dont have much to say about how our pay has deteriorated since after all when you came to AA you got yourself a nice raise.

Just think, if the International keeps outsourcing the Locals work, then maybe you will have to go back to your box and actually work!

Well Bobby if you have some proof of the 3.1 million. You should call the DOL today and hand it over to them, because that is a crime and who ever with the company and the union who are involved should go to prison. You do understand withholding evidence of a crime, and someone doing that would go to prison. Well hell I’ll make it easy for you, I’ll call the DOL for you today and give them your name and phone number. You know something else if your lying again as you usually do there is a number of people that would have grounds to bring legal action against you. Well I know the DOL will be contacting you soon on this matter and you can explain all it to them.

I already did.

They are investigating it.

I called them up for a follow up and they said that they cant discuss it.

As for the penalty for this, typically its not that harsh, however if they lie to investigators and get caught, then the penalties get harsher, just ask Martha Stewart.

Sorry about the fat jokes Bob, trust me, it's not desperation, it's just every time I picture that mug of yours I see Krispy Kremes being shoved in, my bad.

And I'm not really sure who you think I am but I am already at my box and working everyday. It is you that is confused and worried about the TWU and it's mannerisms.

And pay deterioration? How about our whole industry deteriorating Bob? I'm not locked onto our pay so much as I am our longevity in this industry. I realize we each have separate agendas, so be it. I see Delle and his little entourage of real-estate tycoons detrimental to my workplace.

Why didn't you run against Delle? Coward of another defeat? Oh, I forgot, the AMFA men aren't into self-advancement.....HAHAHA!

Well Bobby I see you have been using that crack research team or maybe I should say the crack smoking research team of Schaible, Stewart, and Rodgers. As for comparing stock fraud and receiving or giving money for a bribe, is as comparing apples and oranges. With the type of bribe that you are referring to would carry a mandatory jail sentence of up to 13 years and not getting to monetary fines. Now if this is as you say not a very stiff sentence you should have a long talk with someone that has been there. When I talked to DOL they had no record of anyone from the DOL speaking to you, but that’s ok I gave them your name, phone number, and address. You see Bobby if you had spoke with the DOL and the DOL had started an investigation, American Airlines and the TWU would have been notified by the DOL of the investigation and as of yesterday neither one has received any kind of notification from the DOL. So Bobby what is your next lie?
